Job Description

Husch Blackwell LLP is a full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple locations across the United States, serving clients with domestic and international operations.  We have an immediate opening for a Staff Accountant in our Kansas City or St. Louis office.   

The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of general accounting functions; including select GL account maintenance and analysis as well as journal entry preparation. Essential job functions include:

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations with variety of complexity for all firm accounts.
  • Perform daily reconciliation of Bank to Book activity
  • Track and file Unclaimed Property
  • Perform journal entries, account reconciliations, monthly financial statements, and other standard and ad-hoc reports as necessary.
  • Perform internal audit of general ledger accounts
  • Perform new vendor audits
  • Research and resolve questions received regarding financial statements and general ledger activity.
  • Assist with various operations of the general ledger accounting processes and activities.
  • Prepare audit schedules related to bank accounts, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, charitable contributions, and assist the auditors in their general ledger inquiries.
  • Assist with partnership tax return and audit process; prepare tax schedules, attend meetings and address questions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Detail-oriented with a demonstrated understanding of accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Excellent proofreading and analytical skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Ability to deliver superior service to all internal and external customers and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to interact in a professional and courteous manner with clients and employees at all times; professional appearance required.
  • Ability to successfully perform position requirements with excellent organizational, time-management and prioritization skills required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team; ability and willingness to adapt to changing business demands.
  • Ability to produce acceptable amount of work efficiently and accurately; ability to produce quality final work product.
  • Position is generally sedentary in nature; involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs. required.
  • Ability to talk and hear required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions required.
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk required.
  • Ability to reach, lift, climb, balance, stoop and crouch required.
  • Ability to see and read PC screens; detect color coding, read fine print, and/or normal type size print required.
