IT Applications Analyst – Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (Columbia, MD)

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is one of the largest suppliers of analytical instrumentation, physical testing, and environmental monitoring systems in the world. Our products include Gas Chromatographs, Liquid Chromatographs, Mass Spectrometers, Total Organic Carbon Analyzers, UV-Vis Spectrometers, Fluorescence, Atomic Absorption, IR, X-Ray, and Universal Testing Machines. In 1975, SSI Corporate Headquarters was established in Columbia, Maryland and we currently have ten regional offices coast to coast.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Develop an extensive working knowledge of company software to provide technical support to employees on business applications as well as identify where applications/technology could be used to solve business problems, improve efficiency, visibility and communication. Assist in the installation, upgrading, testing, and support of new software releases. This role involves working with cross functional business teams, Process Improvement and IT, ensuring the requirements of the business are clearly understood and technology is leveraged to provide the best possible sustainable solution. Candidate must possess a blend of business and technology acumen, big picture vision, excellent listening and communication skills, the desire to improve the business and the dedication and enthusiasm to make that vision a reality.

Includes responsibility for supporting and maintaining Shimadzu’s Office365 business applications, core business systems’ software, and the integrity of any integration or connectivity between applications or systems. Platforms include Microsoft Office 365, CRM, ERP, and reporting solutions as well as any future systems that compliment or extend these systems. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

JOB FUNTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Implementation, maintenance, and support of Microsoft 365 business solutions, to include but not limited to SharePoint, Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, Teams, and any related technologies the organization may employ. Work with business partners throughout the organization to leverage these resources to meet business goals. (Daily)

2. Support of Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Great Plains. Provide instruction and documentation, resolve or report application and system issues. (Daily)

3. Support the use of Power BI, workflows and power apps as well as any future reporting solutions. This includes validating reports. (Daily)

4. Participation in or management of projects relating to SSI’s business systems. Key role in major implementation and upgrade projects including interfacing with and monitoring vendors. (As required.)

5. Data and process flow analysis, requirements gathering and research. Development of appropriate process change, systems change or new system recommendations with the goal of supporting organizational initiatives and maximizing efficiency. (Daily)

6. Development and maintenance of detailed systems documentation to be used for operational, audit and disaster recovery purposes. Creation and promotion of resource materials that foster user understanding, utilization, and efficiencies of SSI’s platforms, leveraging multiple communication channels and mediums. (Daily)

7. User support and continual user process observation in order to be both responsive to user needs and proactive in the development of improvements. (Daily)

8. Execution of generally accepted and appropriate business practices that promote and maintain a reliable and secure computing environment. Responsible for maintaining applications and systems in accordance with industry standards including but not limited to system/application security, data integrity and data security standards. Adherence to SSI’s compliance initiatives including JSOX requirements implemented in support of Shimadzu Corporation. (Daily)

9. As a subject matter expert, support and mentor IT staff. (Weekly)

SCOPE:

This position’s primary focus is the support of Shimadzu’s business software; company wide – with the ability to effectively communicate with and coordinate multiple departments and individuals during the performance of this function.

PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:

Possessing refined analytical and problem-solving skills, the incumbent is required to compare many courses of action in resolving problems and insuring the validity of data on all computer systems company wide. Strong discovery skills, inquisitive focus, and attention to detail will be utilized to deliver the most appropriate solutions for the business.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Degree in computer science, information technology or related field preferred, coupled with three or more years of experience with Microsoft 365 platform and application or database administration / development or equivalent aggregate experience. Verifiable competency in specific Microsoft 365 and PC applications are also required. Experience with mobile system application support / development and Citrix environment support, database systems and programming skills desired.
