The Carlisle Group is conducting a retained search for a Director of Gourmet/Specialty Foods and Wine for a highly respected chain of grocery stores in Hawaii. With dozens of stores, this top-rated supermarket chain offers a bright future ahead!

Job Description:

As the director of Gourmet/Specialty Food & Wine you are responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations and procurement for the company stores and departments. You will work with the director of sales and operations to create an overall vision and strategy for the department and will be responsible for ensuring that your team (in the corporate office and at store level) executes to this strategy and delivers service, quality, merchandising, and an overall experience in alignment with our company’s high standards. You will work closely with vendors to develop strong programs and relationships that build our business and respond to the wants and needs of customers. You will mentor, guide, and develop your direct reports while also encouraging and fostering their passion for specialty foods, wine, and spirits.

Requirements:


  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a Specialty/Fine Foods Manager or Director capacity in the food industry
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business or Marketing or related field preferred or equivalent training & experience.
  • Strong team leader who is committed to the organization's values, culture, and objectives.
  • Able to achieve results through others.
  • Able to manage and organize multiple concurrent projects effectively.
  • Strong analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to synthesize complex ideas and data to formulate plans and actions.
  • Able to think strategically and develop long-term plans.

  • Balance of strategic thinker and doer. Willing to roll up their sleeves and do hands – on work themselves as well as collaborate with others
  • Able to work effectively, meet deadlines and accomplish team objectives in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
  • Able to coach and develop a team.
  • Able to understand and respond to consumer trends and desires

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Oversees day to day operation of stores and departments, ensuring delivery of the highest level of quality and service. Understands and builds the company brand.
  • Works with the marketing team to develop programs and initiatives to engage customers and build loyalty.
  • Provides direction on products to be procured.
  • Oversees the setting of prices and credit terms.
  • Build and execute a profitable strategy for the department that incorporates buying, pricing, merchandising, advertising, promotions, and salesmanship.
  • Ensure financial goals are met.
  • Leverage financial data and customer analytics to drive merchandising strategy and optimization of categories, assortment and pricing.
  • Maintain inventory levels in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Ensure all company policies and programs are followed.
  • Communicate with vendors to develop programs and resolve any issues concerning product costs, quantity/quality, and delivery.
  • Manages, directs and coordinates staff-education and development.
  • Works closely with other departments and store management to develop and execute company programs and initiatives.
  • Works closely with direct supervisor and executive team to ensure alignment of programs and objectives.
  • Understands and lives by Company mission, vision, values, guiding principles and house rules.
  • Any additional duties as assigned.
