Position Summary  

The Mortgage Originator’s primary goal is to originate first and second mortgage loans by responding to incoming calls, email, online applications and branch referrals. The Mortgage Originator will provide fist call resolutions and recommend products and services based on client’s needs. Analyze prospective clients’ financial information and situation to determine mortgage lending program availability. Be astute at handling varying situations and circumstances that are outside of documented processes. Comfortable with bank’s system and tracking of all applicable data.

Essential Functions

Analyze applicant’s financial status, credit and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loans

Makes an underwriting decision for loans based on paper evaluation and program analysis outcome

Respond promptly and efficiently to all residential loan inquiries providing details on loan terms and conditions

Discuss loan alternatives and provide guidance on suitable loans based on personal financial history

Receive and review loan file request originated by other bank personnel, to ensure all necessary forms and information meet FNMA/FHLMC guidelines

Ensure all residential loan files contain needed documents with proper signatures, dates and other relevant data

Checks documents for proper vesting, legal descriptions, closing dates and signatures

Use office computer program systems for data input and financial analysis

Secures needed documents such as savings’ balance statements, account history and credit reports

Review and explain escrow disclosure statements such as account shortages and overages to prospective clients

Develop solid, trusting relationships with client base, and provide exemplary customer service in an effort to retain, and attract future clients

Understand and adhere to Amboy Bank’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with Amboy’s residential loans programs

Identify any risk related issues and concerns and promptly escalate to management

Job Requirements and Qualifications

●  Knowledge of basic lending and underwriting policies and procedures, including FNMA and FHLMC guidelines

●  Knowledge of Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and Sarbanes – Oxley (SOX) compliance standards

●  Knowledge of all federal and state regulations regarding lending and related banking departments

●  Job requires strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

●  Job requires a high level of, organization, planning and prioritization of work

●  Job requires strict attention to details and thoroughness in the completion of job duties

●  Ability to multi task, use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches and solutions to problems

●  Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and mortgage/banking software programs

Education and Experience

High School degree, Bachelor’s degree a plus (in particularly in business, finance)

One to two years previous lending experience, including underwriting and loan processing experience

Good understanding of financial institution products and services

Physical Requirements

●  Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel.

●  Ability to use computer keyboard and system to enter data and process information.

●  Ability to read, talk clearly so that others understand, hear, comprehend the written and spoken word, and see.

●  Ability to use telephone to communicate with customers and employees.

●  Ability to use office equipment such as teller scanner, personal computer, telephone, mobile device, copier, fax machine, adding machine, etc.

Working Conditions

●  Moderate sound as in business office with office machines, computers, and people traffic.
