Job Description

Senior Private Bank Underwriter-1700018333

 

The Private Banking Senior Credit Underwriter role is responsible for underwriting and making recommendations on credit applications for High- and Ultra-High prospects and clients in accordance with sound credit-granting principles and in compliance with BMO policies and procedures, as well as other rules and regulations. This position is also responsible for effectively interacting with Private Bankers; Private Banking Associates, Credit; Directors, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Solutions; Directors, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Administration; and Credit Risk Officers to provide information and assistance regarding the adjudication of credit applications.

 

50 % Credit Assessment -

1.        Participates in vetting and due diligence activities to qualify potential clients and credit opportunities.

2.        Researches and thoroughly analyzes financial and non-financial information to assess credit and repayment risk associated with present and potential client exposures.

3.        Raises issues and prevents Audit, Loan Review, data integrity, and other findings.

4.        Completes financial statement and tax return analysis within Financial Analysis and Credit Tools (FACT) and Moody’s Risk Analysis (MRA) software to facilitate client risk ratings.

5.        Assesses client-level probability of default and facility-level loss given default.

6.        Assists with input of client and facility information within software utilized to capture credit applications (LTSL).

7.        Reviews documentation for conformity with approved credit terms and conditions and compliance with bank policies and guidelines.

Participates in client meetings with Private Bankers, when appropriate.

Provides guidance to Private Banking Credit Underwriters and others involved with Commercial Lending Process.

Ensures adherence to all Corporate Policies; Corporate Standards; and Policy, Guidelines & Procedures.

 

10 % Recommends Credit Applications -

Applies fundamental credit and risk management concepts and complies with all bank policies and guidelines in recommending credit requests.

Ensures accurate client risk ratings while employing appropriate bank models, policies, and guidelines.

Collaborates and consults with Private Bankers; Directors, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Solutions; Directors, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Administration; and Credit Risk Officers to identify and address all risks associated with credit requests and determine the appropriate course of action.

 

30% Credit Risk Management -

Assists with monitoring and assessing risks that affect the BMO Private Bank loan portfolio.

Maintains and applies comprehensive knowledge of all relevant policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Assists with BMO Private Bank’s efforts relating to the annual Audit and Loan Review examination process.

Ensures that BMO Private Bank meets all risk- and portfolio-quality metrics and key performance indicators.

Participates in credit risk management related projects, as appropriate.

 

10% Customer Retention/Cross-Selling -

Ensures that client needs and expectations are met or exceeded.

Identities and recommends additional Bank products and services to Private Banker for further consideration.

Job Requirements

 

Knowledge:

This position requires Credit Qualification.  The incumbent must possess a Working level of Credit knowledge and skills and a Working level of Portfolio Management knowledge and skills according to the standards established within the Credit Qualification and Discretionary Limits Matrices.

Bachelor’s degree. Preferably in a business-related field.

Requires a minimum of 5 years of previous Private Banking and/or Commercial Loan and Credit Analysis/Underwriting experience.

Prior Relationship Management and/or Portfolio Management experience is a plus.

Demonstrated ability to successfully structure complex credit requests that minimize risk while providing clients with enhanced business value.

Working knowledge of cash flow, credit, and collateral analysis.

Demonstrated knowledge of Commercial/Private Banking loan products.

Thorough knowledge of software being utilized to capture credit applications (LTSL), Financial Analysis and Credit Tools (FACT), Moody’s Risk Analysis (MRA), Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.

 

Skills:
