Job Description

Efficient Natural Resources is an autonomous business, one of four Sectors, within Johnson Matthey plc with revenues of circa £1 billion (circa £7 billion including precious metal value acquired and traded) and operations worldwide. The Business Development & Incubator Director leads the following activities for the Efficient Natural Resources business: The incubation of complex, high-risk multidisciplinary projects using highly innovative technologies/processes and/or concerning new products/markets from idea generation to commercialization, including full P&L responsibility for those businesses through to hand over. Business development activities, identifying and assessing growth platform opportunities in line with the Sector strategy (organic growth, innovation and acquisition driven growth) and driving those opportunities through the pipeline. 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Business opportunity manager: overall responsible for identifying and growing new business, internally or externally, managing all aspects: from brand, reputation and market positioning to operations, EHS, and risk management

- Define BD strategy and approach, key areas and markets, in coordination with BU MDs and Technology Application directors

  • Business development and M&A: overall responsible for building a pipeline of M&A opportunities, from identification through to execution, accountable for delivery of business case;

- Coordination of Due Diligence efforts, particularly around value identification;  Incubator management: overall responsible for building the business from the final stages of technology development/ initial stages of commercialization, up to its growth to GBP 5M OP annually, ready for handover for integration into the business 

Job Requirements

  • Master Degree preferred; Minimum Bachelor degree in scientific topic.

  • Significant experience in senior position for complex multinational businesses with a senior leadership role with expertise in strategy/ marketing/ technology

  • Deep expertise and past experience along the BD/M&A value chain (from deal generation, to business integration, to new business growth)

  • Entrepreneurial mentality 

  • A global mind-set and experience obtained in a multi-cultural environment

Johnson Matthey’s Efficient Natural Resources Sector has sites located in West Deptford, NJ, Savannah, GA and Wayne, PA.  This role is flexible and the successful candidate can be based out of one of these three sites.  Travel to other Johnson Matthey sites and to the global headquarters in the UK is required.
