Job Description

Freight Customer Service Representative

Our client is a mid-sized third-party logistics (3PL) company based in Sayreville, NJ, providing asset-based trucking and freight brokerage services. It seeks to hire a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Freight Customer Service Representative (CSR).  CSRs receive customer calls about shipments and arrange pick-up/delivery of shipments based on customer instructions.
Qualified candidates will have at least 3 years of experience with freight arrangement within a distribution operation, 3PL warehouse. They should also demonstrate knowledge of DOT regulations and OSHA safety rules related to shipping, as well as the warehouse receiving/shipping process. The Logistics Customer Service Representative should be experienced with web-based freight arrangement systems and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). Experience with 3PLCentral is highly desired.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with customers to capture shipping order instructions and status.
  • Determine routing requirements and schedule carriers to pick-up/delivery loads.
  • Enter data into logistics systems, including delivery schedules, carrier data, weights, dimensions, cube, and driver instructions. Experience with 3PLCentral is a plus.
  • Assist and coordinate with other Freight Customer Service Representatives and Shipping Clerks to pick and ship warehouse orders on-time and complete.
  • Maintain daily objectives and ensure shipping windows are met in a timely and effective manner. Generate shipping documents including BOLs, packing lists and labels.
  • Read and understand a variety of retail/wholesale vendor routing guides.
  • Monitor vendor chargebacks and follow specific guides for each individual vendor.
  • Advise management on ways to improve sales, services or profitability.
  • Prepare and turn-in requested reports within established deadlines.
  • Assist the development of Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Job Requirements

  • 10-plus years of supervisory experience in an automotive or industrial manufacturing environment OR 3PL company serving Automotive OEMs with manufacturing replenishment services.
  • Candidates with less than 10 yrs experience will NOT be considered.
  • Must demonstrate labor management, leadership and team building skills.
  • Expertise in automotive assembly, sequencing and JIT manufacturing replenishment, quality assurance, inventory management, warehousing processes and systems, as well as BOM maintenance, launch planning, and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Former P&L responsibility and familiarity with labor and financial budgeting.
  • Experience in the use of SAP ERP for quality and order management and WMS for warehouse management is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in driving process re-engineering and operational improvement projects with evidence of increased productivity and cost-savings.
  • Experience in planning for and executing capital projects to improve material handling, inventory storage and retrieval, machine setup and utilization, product/service quality, safety, and information management.
  • Group facilitation and trainer/instructor skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong organization, communication, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Engineering or Business (Ops Mgmt), or equivalent work experience.
