Job Description

The Suffolk County Water Authority is seeking a Director of Information Technology for our IT department in Oakdale. The Director will coordinate and direct all operational activities of the Information Technology Department as well as provide direction and support for information technology solutions that enhance mission critical business operations and strategic goals for the Authority.  The person in this role reports to and works closely with the Chief Technology Officer.


Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and vision to the Information Technology Department;   oversee the day to day responsibilities/assignments and productivity of the IT staff.

  • Maintain and support the IT infrastructure of workstations, servers, mobile devices, telephone communications and network equipment.

  • Ensure network security and protection of Authority information.

  • Prepare vendor purchase orders for procurement of Information Technology equipment and services; reviews annual maintenance service agreements.

  • Assist in the development of the SAP application modules.

  • Foster professional development of department staff.

Job Requirements


  • Minimum of 8 years experience in related Information Technology field required.

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field required.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing projects and staff.

  • Solid understanding of business processes, management budgeting, and customer service operations.

  • Extensive knowledge of computer systems, network design, programming and related database concepts.

  • Knowledge of back/up disaster recovery, servers, disk storage, applications, and networks.

  • Proven ability in IT planning and organization and project management.

  • Self motivated individual with the ability to make decisions and give direction.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to express ideas in a professional business setting.
