Your Role: What you'll be doing

This position is a Corporate IT senior database engineer, reporting directly to the Leader of the Systems Group in IT Operations. Provides programming and management functions for enterprise computing systems at United Launch Alliance for both on-premise and cloud environments. Responsibilities include working as a member of the systems team on the administration, integration and maintenance of computing systems. Works with the business stakeholders and users to accomplish complex system integration, deployment, system performance analyses, problem resolution, and system security initiatives. Works with senior staff on the development of system management strategies, architectural assessments, system tools, and software for the administration of production systems. Monitoring system performance and identifying problems that arise. Responding in a timely manner to user-reported errors. Protecting the database against threats or unauthorized access. Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance. Suggesting changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection.

Your Background: What education and experience you'll need

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and 4 - 8 years of experience.
  • 4 years of directly related experience and relevant professional certifications may be used to satisfy the bachelor’s degree requirement.

Your Background: What skills you'll need

  • Demonstrated experience with management of database technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of data protection strategies for the above listed database platforms. This includes backup and recovery, replication, high availability, point-in-time restores, etc.
  • Demonstrate understanding of database and system licensing strategies for Oracle, Microsoft, and RedHat in physical, virtualized, and cloud deployments.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of database systems internals including relational database design and distributed databases/MPP architectures Advanced SQL coding, tuning and query optimization
  • Possess excellent communication skills and experience working with internal and external customers (both technical and non-technical audiences). Experience troubleshooting applications and system performance and complex, production software issues

  • Ability to tune databases based on explain plans overall system behavior. Ability to tune complex workloads.
  • Ability to drive tasks to completion and take ownership of projects


Summary Salary Range (Colorado Only)

$94,059 - $146,931

Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon a candidate’s experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
