We have an exciting opportunity for an Area Sales Manager / East to join a global supplier of wood coatings for furniture and cabinetry. This is a world class organization and market leader!  You will work closely with our customers around wood solutions, and color and styling expertise. Our Wood Coatings business unit is a key supplier of wood adhesives and board resins for construction materials and engineered products.  This role provides leadership for a sales team to achieve sales revenue and margin targets. This great role is located in and focused on the Northeast!

  • Ensure sales targets are clear, visible and measurable with appropriate target and activity-based KPIs.
  • Develop an activity plan for team.
  • Ensure (CRM, ERP) contain up-to-date, accurate and complete customer information
  • Take the lead in understanding the customer base, in the assigned market, for the creation, by sales and marketing, of reliable segment plans and sales plans.
  • Contribute to setting sales and growth targets at the allocated customers and distribution partners.
  • Participate in the design of business growth and sales plans.
  • Coach behavior and skills on a group or individual basis.
  • Create a sales implementation plan based on the sales targets
  • Ensure the customer allocations to the members of the team are in line with agreed customer service levels for that segmentation.
  • Regularly call with the salesman on the key existing and potential customers
  • Identify significant business opportunities
  • Pinpoint existing and/or potential problem areas and assist field force.
  • Monitor quality of technical support provided by the technical unit in handling complex customer inquiries and in the resolution of their complaints.
  • Provide competitive intelligence for possible further market penetration.
  • Deliver periodical business reviews
  • Mentor capabilities of the team and constituent individuals.
  • Ascertain the sales team to actively participate in company sales competence and training programs (including, sales process-related knowledge / tools)
  • Select, train, coach and manage a competent and dedicated salesforce.
  • Responsible for team morale
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and support management of customer expectations
  • Ensure all products, sales tools, systems and appropriate support are available
  • Develop long-term relations with the customer by participating in major customer events.
  • Liaison with the work streams (including, marketing, technical, logistics and finance) about the required sales support level and coordinate their actions.
  • Train the subordinates on the features and benefits of the products/services.
  • Provide information to the sales support unit regarding customers' needs
  • Educate customers on technical requirements of the available product lines and support tools.

  • Bachelor's degree, Marketing, Business, Chemistry, Engineering, etc.
  • 7 years of experience in sales and management
  • Can demonstrate previous sales strategy and tactical success
  • Have previous experience in coatings, paints, stains is preferred but will consider other industrial products or finishings
  • Experienced in Distribution Management and Key Account Management
  • Knowledge of management tools, CRM
  • Strong communicator able to present at all levels
  • Experience with training / mentoring sales teams to successful results
  • Strategic insights and analytical skills
  • High energy and have a strong result orientation
  • Ability to lead, engage and coach others, excellent people skills
  • Skilled at organizing, prioritizing workflow and coordinating the work of others
  • Collaborate cross-functional team player
  • Good knowledge in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to create good networks
  • Advanced education is a plus.
  • Professional sales training, negotiation / industry certifications is a plus.
