Responsibilities
  • Provide advice regarding personnel and pay matters to supported soldiers.
  • Train co-workers on use of automated systems.
  • Create, update and delete data in a variety of files for compliance requirements.
  • Develops reports of rejects, trends and statistical material for supervisor.
  • Review, process, audit and edit complex pay and personnel actions for soldiers.
  • Resolve pay issues for customers.
  • Provides technical advice for officers and enlisted personnel.
  • Controls and monitors suspense files and correspondence files for Administrative Activities.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical or administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence, filing and data entry; processing a variety of personnel or pay actions; and interpreting and/or applying regulatory or procedural requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
  • Fundamentals and Operations of Military and Civilian Pay
  • Oral Communication
  • Personnel Action Processing and Recordkeeping
  • Written Communication

Additional information

  • This is a TERM position. It is time-limited and may be extended in any increment up to a maximum of six years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least two years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service and employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.
  • Term appointment has the potential to be extended beyond six years up to eight years.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
