Our client, an expanding manufacturing and machining facility in western NY, is searching for a highly qualified EHS Specialist to join their ever-growing team.
The environmental, health, and safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day environmental, health, and safety compliance programs, permit requirements and providing technical oversight and expertise to EHS and other site leaders. This position will actively participate in the company audit and self-assessment program, incident investigation and corrective action process, and continuous improvement activities.
The EHS Specialist will promote a safe working environment for all employees through proper training, internal inspections and program management. Ensure that the company adheres to, enforces and abides by all Federal, State and Local environmental and health & safety requirements to the best of the company's ability. Minimize personnel and business losses by implementing and enforcing all EHS requirements and programs.
Coordinate and administer the health, safety and environmental programs per corporate guidelines and assist on the tactical, day to day matters pertaining to EHS.
Track and communicate agreed-upon site EHS metrics to appropriate parties and prepare monthly EHS status reports.
Provide support to Sr. EHS Engineer who is a liaison between company and external regulatory agencies.
Coordinate the implementation of all applicable OSHA programs (Hazard Communication, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, confined space, hot work, PPE, etc.), with initial and periodic training of employees.
Maintain and retain relevant compliance documentation as required.
Coordinate with HR on Workman’s Compensation matters to manage return to work program.
Oversee the recycling program and waste management system
Coordinate the emergency response system by maintaining written plans, scheduling drills, managing response equipment, and training site managers and supervisors on leading an emergency response action.
Build employee safety awareness through interaction, communication, training; and by participating in development and implementation of an upcoming global behavioral safety system.
Co-administrate the EHS Tracker Software System. Provide training to mid-level management in incident and near miss reporting.
Addressing employee safety concerns by overseeing Safety Teams monthly audit program to identify and investigate emerging issues.
Assist in investigation of all near misses, workplace illnesses and injuries; develop and implement corrective action plans; monitor and assess effectiveness. Update EHS Corrective and Preventative Action Plan records as necessary.
Other duties as assigned, such as assisting the Quality Department in the development of and implementation of the quality management system and maintaining its effectiveness by communicating to the organization the importance of meeting customer as well as statutory and regulatory requirements.
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience - EHS professional certification or focused education/degree is preferred, but not required
3-5 years of Environmental Health and Safety ( technical, tactical and regulatory ) within a Manufacturing / Machining environment
Experience within Automotive or Aerospace industries desired, though not required.
Working experience in implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, and working in cross-functional teams.
A minimum of 3 years of experience with all environmental media (i.e., air, water/wastewater, waste).
A minimum of 3 years of experience with safety management inspections.
Ability to establish measurable project goals and implementation plans, balance conflicting work demands, and develop action plans.
Ability to actively listen, build, and maintain effective working relationships with internal/ external colleagues and stakeholders, and resolve conflict constructively.
Ability to successfully manage projects and programs.
Excellent organization and communication skills in a fast-paced environment
High attention to detail and accuracy in work
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work with employees at all levels
