Summary of duties:

Based in Chicago, the Senior Regional Manager (SRM) reports to the EDC Chief Representative & Sr. Trade Commissioner and is responsible for EDC’s business development initiatives in the Great Lakes Region.

The SRM develops market coverage and operational plans for the Great Lakes region of the United States. The SRM develops and executes effective account strategies with key accounts, prospects and partners. The SRM facilitates and creates business development activities between Canadian Exporters and buyers located in the region.

The SRM sources and assesses initial and early stage structuring of large (USD 50 Million +) loans in support of an export and investment contracts on behalf of a Canadian company and their foreign buyer where either the Canadian exporter or their buyer have requested potential EDC financing support.


 Condition of employment (must be met):

  • Eligibility for a Government of Canada Reliability Status;
  • Must have a valid work authorization covering the employment period;
  • Must be admissible for travel to Canada and within the United States.

Experience:

The Consulate General of Canada in Chicago is seeking to hire a Senior Regional Manager at the LEP level within the Export Development Corporation Section of the Consulate


Export Development Canada (EDC) is Canada’s export credit agency, offering innovative financial and commercial solutions to help Canadian exporters and investors expand their international business. EDC’s knowledge and partnerships are used by more than 9,400 Canadian companies and their global customers in up to 200 markets worldwide each year. Approximately 80 per cent of EDC's customers are small and medium-sized businesses.

Job Description:


Under the leadership and guidance of the Sr. Trade Commissioner & the EDC Chief Representative, the Senior Regional Manager is responsible for leading EDC’s financial business development efforts in the Great Lakes Region. The incumbent has continual interaction with both Chief Financial Officers / Treasurers of major local borrowers, senior bankers, CFO’s, CEO’s, senior private sector representatives and senior public sector officials to discuss new opportunities, potential financial structuring solutions, credit analysis and risk mitigation issues. The incumbent is expected to leverage this extensive value added network across the markets of coverage in order to enhance EDC’s capacity to support key Great Lakes Regional clients and Canadian exporters and investors active in those markets. As a trusted advisor to senior EDC management in the Field and at Headquarters, the Senior Regional Manager is called upon to develop and implement strategies, approaches and initiatives for positioning the EDC brand in the markets of coverage. The incumbent will lead the development of innovative financial solutions to meet business requirements in those markets.


The Senior Regional Manager is accountable for financial business results of EDC in a territory against specified business volume targets including with assigned strategic accounts. The Senior Regional Manager oversees business development planning and the management of business development strategies and initiatives in the markets of coverage. 


The Senior Regional Manager is also responsible for building and managing the brand image and reputation of EDC as a local value added player in the markets of coverage and manages the Corporation’s relationship with key stakeholders and partners.


Specific Accountabilities

  • Responsible for executing and delivering on EDC strategies and initiatives to position the EDC brand in Chicago
  • Transaction packaging/facilitation on new and active EDC financial deals
  • Responsible for generating a significant amount of financial business volume for EDC
  • Identifies, creates and develops client relationship management strategies, approaches and initiatives to develop and nurture potential new clients and maintain existing clients
  • Engages with EDC industrial Sector Leaders, Account Executives, and product teams to research and identify high potential prospects in the market of coverage
  • Generates financial leads and engages with product team for fulfillment, monitor and follow-up
  • Meets with active Canadian clients/companies who seek out EDC locally to determine potential needs and gauge potential for EDC’s services
  • Leverages extensive local network of contacts within financial and corporate sectors as well as other partners such as the Canadian Embassy to develop new leads and opportunities
  • Plans, leads and oversees interaction from variety of EDC teams as required by the business requirements of the markets of coverage
  • Works closely with sector leaders and product teams in at Head Office to determine client relationship management strategies and approaches and delegates
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to key Great Lakes Regional clients, internal management and active Canadian exporters/investors in Chicago
  • Provides expert advice and guidance to colleagues in dealing with customers of EDC in assigned territories as required
  • Leads matchmaking activities including inbound and outbound clients that are targeted as an EDC strategic account
  • Provides expert professional mentoring and coaching of staff in building product knowledge, financial solutions, leadership and relationship management skill sets to enhance EDC capacity to meet challenges presented by the market
  • Works with Government of Canada counterparts in various missions as pertains to required HR administration and coordination
