    Program Description

    The Beacon Healthcare Leadership Development Program (HLDP) Internship is aimed at providing graduate level candidates with an experience that will enrich understanding of healthcare service delivery and its intricacies and challenges, while utilizing the business skills of the candidates acquired by past work experience and education. The program places in high regard the value that will be provided to those selected for the program and the experience at Beacon that will assist in shaping future senior leaders.

    Job Description

    Evaluating the medical necessity, appropriateness, and efficiency of the use of health care services, otherwise known as Utilization Management or simply UM, is one of the essential core functions of all managed care organizations.  Under the direction of the Director of UM Transformation, the Corporate Strategic Operations Graduate Associate will be involved in projects that focus on recommendation and implementation of process, staffing, and technological solutions to support an efficient and effective utilization management model for the corporate enterprise. The exact projects will be tailored to match the chosen candidate’s skills, and career goals, as well as the current departmental needs.

    Responsibilities

    Under the direction of the Director of UM Transformation and sponsorship of the Associate Vice President of UM Transformation, the Corporate Strategic Operations Graduate Associate will be involved in projects supporting the implementation of initiatives related to the Utilization Management Redesign effort. Working with the UM Transformation Team, the Graduate Associate will support various initiatives that will result in a more efficient and effective future state UM operating model aligned with Beacon’s ongoing goals to remain a high performing company that delivers results for our clients, members, providers, and Beacon team members.

    Examples of potential project tasks include:

  • Implementation of initiatives

    • Discovery with subject matter experts

    • Financial analysis

    • Process flow mapping

    • Impact analysis

    • Change management

       General Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree and current student of an MBA, MPH or other graduate program

  • 3-5 years of experience in research, analytics, process improvement projects, and project management

  • motivated with ability to handle multiple priorities and meet aggressive timelines

    Detail-oriented with ability to work independently and adapt in a fast-changing environment

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an orientation toward demonstrating results

  • Comfortable interacting across all business levels and departments

  • Able to navigate a matrixed organization and engage stakeholders on key initiatives

  • Excellent organization and project management skills

  • Demonstrated cross-functional project leadership experience

  • Professional demeanor with strong written and oral communication skills
