Transportation Supervisor

Our Client is looking for a dynamic candidate to come in and grow with their organization. This individual will be responsible for 3-4 drivers and coordinating the loads of flatbed trucks. If you are looking to work for an up and coming organization please apply!
  • Oversee the operations of the truck fleet to assure that high service levels are attained at minimum expense
  • Responsible for developing an accurate means of record keeping to effectively monitor shipments and drivers
  • Maintain accurate files on vehicle use, condition, and maintenance
  • Ensure tractors and trailers are effectively utilized by developing efficient delivery schedules
  • Schedule daily and weekly routes
  • Implement an inspection program to safeguard the equipment and a maintenance program to keep equipment in effective operating condition
  • Process bills of lading
  • Establish a trip reporting procedure and process the trip reports from all drivers and shipments
  • Plan and supervise the shipments from production to the end-user
  • Coordinate with Warehouse Workers to ensure proper storage and distribution of products
  • Monitor and report on transportation costs
  • Ensure shipping documents are properly filed
  • Report maintenance and repair needs for transportation vehicles and equipment
  • Research and suggest cost-effective shipping methods
  • CDL License is a plus
  • Understands most shipping terms; can use a dictionary to find terms not recognized. Is willing to clarify shipping terms unique to a location. Understands routings, schedules and general practices of various countries, carriers, ports and terminals.
  • Knows what type of equipment must be made available at what locations, depending on shipping schedules and types of goods shipped.
  • Uses maps, atlases and other geographic reference material. Knows where the nearest ports and terminals are to customers or can use references to find that information. Knows best mode of transportation for ground transport between customer and terminal.
  • Understands the characteristics and capabilities of various carriers and knows where to locate special equipment needed and with whom the company contracts.
