We are seeking a dynamic and creative healthcare actuary to lead our National Accounts Actuarial and Analytics team. The individual will be a recognized leader in the large employer healthcare marketplace, with exceptional oral and written communication skills, and a passion for finding new ways to creatively solve customer problems while appropriately managing risk. This leader will manage a team of 25-30 actuaries and analysts, will participate on the National Accounts executive leadership team, and will represent UHC National Accounts externally to our customers and the consulting community regarding financial and actuarial topics.
The Vice President of the National Accounts Actuarial and Analytics team will be responsible for delivering actuarial and analytical support to the National Accounts leadership team and UHC’s National Accounts customers.

Network Value: Would work directly with the consulting firms to demonstrate the UHC network value proposition as well as the impact of affordability programs to manage total healthcare costs. Develop an in-depth knowledge of industry trends and how our network development and contracting strategy fit into this. Support ad hoc engagements to deploy intense, time sensitive measures to either secure new or defend existing business. Work with UHC’s Network organization to guide contracting and discount valuation strategy.
Affordability agenda: Advance the affordability agenda to support the modernization of national client health plans. Client-specific consultative engagement to drive customers toward plan designs and clinical management solutions that have been proven to increase employee engagement and impact utilization patterns.
Clinical management value: Ensure that our clinical solutions value story is developed with supportable actuarial and statistical analytic rigor.
Private Exchange actuarial oversight: Ensure that UHC’s rating methods and processes are sound and reflect emerging experience. Oversee the maintenance of Private Exchange rating models used to price new business and renewal business.
Medical cost trend analytics: Monitor and analyze medical cost trends. Educate National Accounts leaders, customer service teams, and customers on medical cost trend drivers. Engage with clinical and product teams to ensure appropriate management of emerging trends. Evaluate existing and develop new approaches to delivering on our promise of network value through trend and other performance guarantees.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Economics or similar degree
- ASA or FSA designation
- 10+ years of experience in a healthcare actuarial setting
- 5+ years of health actuarial experience in a large employer/national accounts market segment
- 5+ years of management experience with a successful track record of developing and leading an actuarial staff
- Expert level knowledge of concepts and methodologies in the health care environment
- Expert level proficiency in actuarial program design and client consulting

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado / Connecticut / Nevada residents is $169,500 to $322,500.
