Staff Software Engineer (US Remote Friendly) job in Charlotte at 10x Genomics

About The Role

While DNA sequencing technology has advanced rapidly, it’s still at a level equivalent to what assembly language was to computing, with huge advances yet to be made. 10x Genomics is creating products that will do for sequencing what C did for computing, bringing a leap in higher-order clarity and meaning to what is now very low-level information. Software is a key part of that leap. The scale and complexity of analyzing, managing, and visualizing DNA sequencing data means this is an area with no shortage of hard problems, where brilliant engineering still matters and can yield big payoffs.

We want computer scientists and engineers — not just programmers — who excel at creating elegant, practical solutions at every level from web APIs down to LLVM code optimization. We are developing performance-critical algorithms, highly parallel data analysis architectures, robust web applications, and rich user interfaces and visualizations.

What You Will Be Doing

• Design, build, test, and ship software as described above
• Write software to solve difficult and challenging biological problems
• Work across the organization to solve difficult architectural challenges

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline and 4 years of software development experience; OR 6 years of professional experience building software

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals
• In-depth understanding of performance at various layers (OS, compiler, file system, network, database, runtime)
• Expert level knowledge of Go, Python, Rust, C/C++
• Linux-based systems programming experience
• Experience developing distributed and/or parallel systems
• Deep understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment & monitoring

Below is the US base salary range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, experience, and location. At 10x, the base salary is also just one component of the Company’s total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x’s annual bonus program, equity grants, and comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs. $212,400—$259,600 USD
