Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a residential and acute program, for males and females ages 8-21, consist of a cognitive behavioral treatment model that encourages youth to safely explore thoughts and feelings related to the development of positive and desirable behavior within their homes and communities. Our programs have been designed to provide each individual resident quality mental health treatment in a safe therapeutic environment. It is the mission of Newport News Behavioral Health Center to promote recovery from the effects of abuse, addiction and other behavioral issues through specialized treatment interventions provided by a community of caring professionals.
Responsible as a member of the program team, observes and reports physical and behavioral symptoms under the supervision of the Program Coordinator as well as receiving direction from Teachers in the school setting. The Lead Mental Health Technician (MHT) is an active participant in the implementation of physical care, therapeutic activities, and the academic program. Assist in planning and implementing treatment programs for residents, implements functional behavioral assessment/behavior intervention plans as well as individualized academic or behavioral goals, accommodations, and services as defined by Individualized Instructional Plans (IIPs), Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and 504 Plans. The Lead MHT will provide additional support to the leadership team buy providing oversight of the unit supplies, unit activities, and staff unit paperwork.
Must possess either a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field in Human Services from an accredited University or College and at least one (1) year of experience working in a residential, acute or inpatient psychiatric setting; an Associate’s Degree in Psychology or related field from an accredited University or College and at least two (2) years of experience working in a residential, acute or inpatient psychiatric setting; a high school diploma or a General Education Development Certificate (G.E.D.) and a minimum of three (3) years of experience working with children. Must be Handle with Care, CPR and First Aid certified and hold a valid Virginia Driver’s License. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Prefer 1 year of experience leading a team in a unit and/or department.
Must be able to work 1st Shift (6:30am-3:00pm) or 2nd shift (2:30pm-11:00pm).
