Job SUMMARY:

* Supporting team member for design and development of medical devices in the regenerative medicine space.
* May be dedicated to a single project team or contribute to multiple projects.
* Will have routine functional responsibilities in addition to traditional project work.
* May also support other ad hoc R&D projects and/or sustaining engineering, functional process integration, and/or compliance initiatives.
* Interacts with a variety of functions, both technical and non-technical.

New Product Development

For projects within the Growth Product Flow (GPF) stage gate process, typically serves as a contributing technical team member working under the direction of other R&D project leaders

* Contribute to the establishment of new design inputs (user needs and technical requirements) as applicable depending on the project phase
* Participates in prototyping/R&D build and characterization activities with engineering and scientific team as needed
* Interacts with R&D suppliers and vendors to source components for prototyping and testing; responsible for ordering materials per business processes
* Develops and/or applies physical and mathematical models in support of product design; develops experimental designs and protocols to demonstrate product feasibility; analyzes and resolves design problems associated with product performance
* Designs products, including prototype development of devices, fabrication, verification testing and analysis; applies understanding of surgical procedures, products and trends in related therapeutic area to product design
* Develops technical specifications (design and test, and test method development) to meet product requirements; applies fundamental engineering principles to the design, fabrication, testing and evaluation of products and when resolving technical challenges
* Prepares and delivers technical presentations to internal and, potentially, external customers
* Identifies outside vendors and consultants to ensure the delivery of supplies or services needed to meet scheduled timelines
* Participates in technical reviews

Post-Transfer/Sustaining Engineering Support

* Provides technical/design control support to Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, Marketing and Sales as needed
* Supports Change Control Assessments as needed

* Investigates and evaluates existing technology; designs and implements new methodologies, materials, machines, test fixtures, processes or products.
* Executes against the overall strategy for the Plastics and Regenerative Medicine Franchise.

job QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):

Education and Experience

* Bachelors Degree in engineering or related field with 2-4 years Product Development experience
* Medical device experience or experience in regulated environment
* Experience developing products within a business stage gate process (preferred)

* Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and easy-to-understand way (both verbally and in writing)
* Experience working on a team
* Demonstrated understanding of statistical analysis; experience using Minitab preferred
* Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles and practices
* Design Control knowledge
* Experience with experimental design
* Product development experience
* Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) / Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programs
* Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project and Outlook
