Job Requirements

Shall work with Enterprise Architect, and network engineers to develop a comprehensive and successful enterprise architecture design, migration, and implementation plan. Provide assessments and analyze the network environment/architecture, make recommendations, and implement changes. Responsible for design, staging, configuration, implementation, security, and support for all network related equipment. Design and implement network architecture, equipment, and software in accordance with ISO, NIST and FISMA standards. Responsible for ensuring the network remains operational during production workloads. Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving any network related problems. Responsible for all operations and maintenance of network systems.



Responsibilities of the Enterprise Network Engineer:
  • Work hands on in networking, routing, and switching platforms
  • Collaborate with network architects on network optimization
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain network infrastructure
  • Work on network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting of complex networks
  • Manage and maintain VPN environment and process
  • based in Tyson's, VA and Must be Willing/Able to Travel
  • Acts as a technical resource for internal projects.
  • Mentor Service Delivery and Managed Services Technicians.
  • Participates in architecture and design sessions related to IT strategy
  • Plans and implements network growth projects and customer driven projects.
  • Develops automated methods to remediate and mitigate network events and minimize network operational complexity
  • Generates and takes actions on reports of systems health and performance.
  • Creates and updates technical documentation.
  • Manage and Maintain Windows and Linux Operating systems
  • Supervises or supports updates, backups, and other scheduled maintenance.
  • Supports enterprise network applications such the student information system, Active Directory, electronic mail, virus protection, firewall, intrusion detection system, VolP, etc.
  • Coordinates with vendors for installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of systems and services as necessary.
  • Performs system maintenance and operating system/firmware upgrades.
  • Maintains backup systems for critical enterprise applications. Monitors offsite applications for backup services.
  • Performs basic project management tasks for division technology projects
  • Documents the network in accordance with Information Technology, ISO 20k, ISO 27k, FISMA/NIST guidelines
  • Responds to service requests and provides customer support in-person and/or remotely via telephone, email, or other communication methods.
  • Researches new technologies and makes recommendations for their inclusion within the network infrastructure.
  • Ensure all network switches, routers, firewalls, WAPs are provisioned, secured, maintained and disposed of in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Monitor Ticket system for any escalated tickets
  • Participate in IT On-Call schedule
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on network devices during pre-approved change windows after hours.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.



Qualifications of the Enterprise Network Engineer: (TS)
  • 4+ years of Networking experience supporting implementation, setup, configuration, routing and switching technologies
  • CCNA, CCNP or CCIE certification preferred
  • 4+ years Microsoft or Linux administration
  • 3+ years working with ISO, NIST, FISMA standards and controls
  • 3+ years implementing, managing and maintaining Indentity Management systems. Experience with DUO or similar products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Expert knowledge of local, wide area, and wireless TCP/IP network architectures.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard network protocols
  • Working knowledge of computer programming and virtualization technologies.
  • Knowledge of Windows workstation and server technologies (primary), and Macintosh, Linux (secondary) platforms.
  • Interpersonal skills for working effectively with division employees.
  • Ability to incorporate advanced network management technologies to improve efficiency
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to learn job-related materials through oral instruction, observation, structured lecture, and reading.
  • Ability to work under pressure, such as handling significant, simultaneous, unexpected issues.
  • Ability to provide accurate and detailed information and comprehend and write technical reports and manuals.
  • Ability to establish priority of own work load and work flexible hours as required.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
