Network Technician

Johns Hopkins University Baltimore, MD (On Site) Full-Time
IT@JH Networking, Telecom and Data Center is seeking a **_Network Technician_** who will support the Johns Hopkins University and Enterprise Telecom needs. This position is required to deliver high quality Hopkins telephone service to Hopkins University staff and call centers throughout the Hopkins footprint.

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**

+ Configures voice service via the Avaya Communications Manager PBX. This includes software support and the ability to install/connect devices onto the PBX.

+ Supports individual devices as well as complicated Call Centers, supporting both VOIP SIP and digital phone devices.

+ Required to work with cabling folks as well as Johns Hopkins Data Networking engineers to provide voice services.

_Specific Devices, Software, Projects_

+ The Network Technician will install the following devices.

+ 2400 series phones, 9600 series phones, J series phones.

+ Supports over 100,000 end devices throughout Johns Hopkins.

+ Services will be delivered to staff, Call Centers, security, and other supporting services such as Blue Light Emergency phones and alarms.

_Scale/Size of Area, Project and/or System Supported_

+ Supports 20,000 users at Johns Hopkins University and over 100,000 users throughout the Johns Hopkins Enterprise.

+ Manages telephone systems throughout the Johns Hopkins Enterprise, at this time there are 8 systems.

_On-Call Requirements_

+ At this time there is no on-call requirement. However, there may be times when a call out is necessary to correct phone issues.

+ Basic familiarity with telecom troubleshooting techniques.

+ Basic understanding of voice traffic management concepts.

+ Demonstrated understanding of common operating systems (Windows, Linux, MAC, etc.)

+ Understanding of the following, Avaya PBX (Avaya Communications Manager).

+ AVST Voice Mail System.

+ VOIP SIP Avaya series phones.

+ Valid Driver's license to drive Hopkins company vehicles.

_Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications_

+ Avaya certifications would be preferred but not necessary.

+ Technician skills will be accessed during interview.

**Physical Requirements**

+ Walk between buildings.

+ Drive between campuses in the Baltimore/Washington, DC area.

+ Lift 50 pounds.

+ Climb and handle ladders.

+ Install jack and hardware.

+ Must be able to distinguish between the 5 major and 5 minor colors in the 25-Pair Color Code.

_Work Location_

+ Homewood, however may find it necessary to report to another Johns Hopkins location to resolve needs of the business.

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ High School Diploma/GED.

+ Two years of related experience. Additional education may substitute for experience.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ 5 years of Telecom experience.

+ Valid driver's license.

Role/Level/Range: ATO 37.5/02/OG

Starting Salary Range: $23.30 - $32.00/hr (Commensurate with experience)

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30am-5pm

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
