Under frequent supervision, performs a variety of clerical and receptionist duties on the patient care unit to assist the care team members in transcribing and communicating physicians’ orders and to maintain the efficiency of the unit. Serves as a liaison between the patient and members of the patient care and support teams.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Greets patients, visitors, hospital staff, etc. and provides information as required.
Performs appropriate data collection to assist with admission of patient to patient care unit.
Collaborates with appropriate personnel to obtain all information needed to facilitate smooth transition into the hospital.
Answers and screens telephone calls; relays information and responds to inquires within scope of authority.
Prepares a variety of required forms according to established procedures; obtains appropriate signatures as required.
Prepares routine bed assignments according to established procedures.
Documents unit and inpatient records as necessary, in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
Maintains patient records and other unit files in accordance with established standards and procedures.
Responds to call lights and communicates patient needs to the appropriate
care team members.
What You Need to Be Successful:
High School diploma/GED required. Previous experience in a hospital or health care facility with knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Basic computer and keyboarding skills required.
