The Director of Engineering for Manufacturing is accountable for leading the technical operations and strategic direction of the engineering function; as well as providing communication across various stakeholders to identify and establish ways to increase operational productivity. (warehouse, manufacturing, production techniques, reorder and buying). Investigate current practices and scope. Develop and implement changes that will improve operational productivity
Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Investigate current practices and scope. Develop and implement changes that will improve operational productivity and efficiencies through the application of lean tools including RCO/SMED, standard work, etc.
  • Perform complex assignments to develop new and/or enhance existing procedures, statistical analysis, inspections, and validation activities. Contribute to the organization's process improvement activities.
  • Plan, direct, control and evaluate forecasts budgets to achieve financial objectives. Forecast operating costs for area of scope and responsibility and prepares budget.
  • Apply engineering principles and techniques to the solution of equipment, buildings and infrastructure. Responsible for all phases of program and project management; including responsibility for multi-million dollar projects and equipment installations.
  • Develop quality protocols for packaging equipment/material including bagging, case packer, cartons, metal detection equipment and ink jet printer/labeling machine. Ensure that new products meet the strict quality and performance standards set by the division (i.e. burst testing & tensile tests).
  • Conduct training, when appropriate, on engineering concepts and tools, including but not limited to inspection, measurement and test methods.
  • Lead change and establish operational metrics/key indicators for process control, communication, and performance improvement.
  • Develop and mentor staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; build and maintain employee morale and motivation; ensure the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies.

Education
  • Bachelor%26rsquo;s degree in an Engineering discipline (ME, EE, CHmE).
Relevant Work Experience
  • At least 8 years experience in manufacturing / warehouse environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating and directing people as they work
Additional
  • Proven track record of approaching business challenges from a macro perspective and resolving strategic issues effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with an understanding of your audience and to present ideas and gain commitments that are crucial to the success of the business.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
  • Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (i.e., using average function, merging and centering cells, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Advanced level skill in Microsoft Access (i.e., modifying default field, subform, control button, query criteria, conditional formatting and/or viewing data relationships).
  • Knowledge and ability to develop and interpret operating plans, budgets, capital plans and financial statements.
  • Ability to lead change and establish operational metrics/key indicators for process control, communication, and performance improvement.
  • Advanced skill levels in technical writing, research paper writing and/or experimental design.
  • Basic AS400 or ERP systems knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications

Education
  • Master Engineering degree: ME, EE, CHmE from an accredited university
Relevant Work Experience
  • 10 to 15 years of experience preferably experience and knowledge in the manufacturing of absorbent products and web handling (baby and/or adult diapers, femHy, light inco, underpad) and the typical equipment for manufacturing these products.
  • Knowledge of PLCs (Siemens & Rockwell), servo systems, machine vision (Cognex and other), robotics, CMMS, Historian, SAP, AutoCad or other 3D modeling software.
  • Knowledge of automated material handling systems in including roll handling equipment, laser guided vehicles and automated pick and ship systems.
  • Working knowledge of facility systems to include HVAC, fire suppression, vacuum and compressed air systems.
  • Experience in successful implementation/application of robotics and artificial intelligence within manufacturing
  • Proven track record of approaching business challenges from a macro perspective and resolving strategic issues effectively.
