Roles & Responsibilities: Provide care for patients in collaboration with stroke attendings and within the guidelines mutually agreed upon by clinical and medical administration. Assesses patients' needs and develops plan of care in collaboration with the physician Provides health teaching, guidance and counseling Makes appropriate referrals with the concurrence of the physician Performs complete physical exams utilizing customary techniques Orders medication in collaboration with physician Works with Attending physicians to effectuate timely discharges, order tests, coordinate procedures and works with social workers and hospital staff to set up outpatient supplies/medications and follow-up appointments. Also includes direct admissions, initial orders, and communication with family and attending. Maintains familiarity with and utilizes EPIC order sets for admission of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients. Utilizes stroke center consultation and progress note templates. Obtains and maintains certification in NIH Stroke Scale. Responds to stroke codes in hospital, both in emergency department and any hospital unit requesting such services in a rapid and efficient manner Acts as a consultant to all hospital services requesting stroke service evaluation. Performs detailed history and physical examination on all consultations, obtaining data elements such as timing of studies and other parameters necessary for stroke center certification as specified by the stroke center director and / or stroke center coordinator. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Provide clinical care for patients on stroke unit on 1 North, including coordination with nursing staff and stroke attendings. Performs qualification of patients for acute stroke treatment, including intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular thrombectomy. Performs appropriate ordering of imaging studies for stroke diagnosis, including CT, CT angiography, MRI, MRA, echocardiography and vascular ultrasound. Performs patient education for stroke patients and families as specified by stroke center requirements. Attains proficiency in usage of telemedicine systems provided by stroke center, including tablet based systems Maintains knowledge of all active clinical trials in stroke center, including inclusion and exclusion criteria. Requirements: Masters, Graduate of an ARC-PA Accredited Physician Assistant Program, previous health related experience and experience as a PA preferred. Required: all credentialing documents not limited to but including NYS PA registration, Diploma, license, current PA licensure and certification, ACLS, BCLS, PALS Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $56.60 - $74.83 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
