Job Description

Summary:



Manage the recording and reporting of US taxes for financial reporting purposes and to ensure compliance with all reporting requirements at the Federal, State and local levels.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead the preparation of the US Federal, State, local income tax and information returns and other required forms

Coordinate with external service providers and ensure tax reporting deadlines are met

  • Lead the preparation of the US Group's income tax provision for financial reporting purposes

  • Compile and review the calculation of the effective tax rate on a consolidated and separate entity basis

  • Compute and coordinate the remittance of estimated tax payments and final tax payments at the US Federal, State and local levels

  • Manage correspondence with tax authorities, reconciliation of tax accounts and the reports to management

  • Co-lead the tax audit process with tax analysis, information gathering, preparing responses to information requests, status documentation and communication with relevant tax authorities

  • Collaborate in the operational planning process to identify any tax withholding and liability issues, and propose alternate scenarios to mitigate risk

  • Research, identify and communicate trends and developments in US Federal and State tax which are relevant to the businesses

  • Coordinate and track administrative data for tax returns, including performance of service providers and related information

  • Work with the Chief Financial Officer on special transactions and North American tax planning in order to provide tax and operational efficiencies

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly variance analysis

  • Pursue continuous improvement in operations reporting, analysis, commentary, scorecards, dashboards, KPIs, etc.

  • Establish and document tax-related operating procedures Work with Shared Services teams to coordinate any financial information needed to conduct activities while building good relationships and understanding of the tax function and dependencies

  • Work to establish best practices with regards to process, tools and technologies and be a key contributor to the implementation teams for US tax-realted functions

  • Work with Canadian and European Tax teams to establish best practices and procedures

  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Competencies

  • CPA required

  • Experience in Public Accounting or Big Four preferred

  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Demonstrated expertise in the use computer programs such as Microsoft Excel with strong use of pivot tables and macros

  • Ability to work independently

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

  • Detail oriented with a personal commitment to task completion

  • Proactive, detail-focused and deadline oriented

  • Strong analytical capability, sound business sense and creative mind
