The Strategic Communications Senior Director is the organization's primary brand manager and promotes visibility for our work with clients, other stakeholders, and the general public to position the organization for continued growth. She/he is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications and public relations plan -including both internal and external strategies. She/he oversees and ensures organizational consistency of messaging and reporting and coordinates organizational content development. The Strategic Communications Senior Director grows Tanager's digital presence, including managing social media channels, exploring multimedia development, and creating compelling web, e-newsletter, and blog content. The Senior Director is also responsible for cultivating relationships with representatives of key partners including potential clients, industry forums and traditional media channels. This includes gaining visibility with and helping to secure funding from new partners, as well as developing and marketing Tanager initiatives. The candidate must be a creative self-starter who can work collaboratively in a flat organizational structure with colleagues across multiple continents. The Strategic Communications Senior Director oversees cross-organizational collaboration, alignment, and synergies with communications and outreach goals and services of the AV Group.
* Bachelor's degree. Master's degree in journalism, communications, public relations preferred.
* Minimum of eight years' experience in marketing, social media outreach, website management, and writing. Significant experience with public relations and corporate communication beneficial.
Responsibilities
Manage Tanager brand and related collateral
* Manage organization's brand through various channels, including print, web, and social media-ensuring consistent messaging and adherence to branding guidelines.
* Build the capacity of staff worldwide to serve as brand ambassadors.
* Build capacity of staff to draft high-quality content that is tailored to the needs of target audiences.
* Develop key collateral materials, including web content, fact sheets, presentations, etc.
* Coordinate with and receive tactical support from AV's Communications & Outreach team, specifically in the area of digital media execution.
* Develop and implement Tanager communications strategies to increase visibility for the organization
* Develop and implement an integrated-long-term and annual-strategic communications plan to advance Tanager's work and mission.
* Manage and promote annual calendars of key events and conferences.
* Support staff worldwide in communicating effectively with targeted audiences and influencers.
* Cultivate relationships with members of the media, industry think tanks, and event forums to position Tanager as subject matter experts for article publication and speaking engagements.
* Partner with project management and technical staff to develop content such as news items, success stories, e- newsletters, press releases, brochures, video, and other special projects as they arise.
Manage Tanager's website and social media outreach
* Develop and implement Tanager's online media strategy.
* Lead content update and system maintenance efforts for the Tanager website.
* Enhance Tanager's overall online visibility, leveraging the latest trends in digital communications, SEO, and data analytics.
* Coordinate with Tanager staff worldwide so that the website and media efforts reflect project achievements and business development efforts.
* Support President to cultivate and maintain meaningful online presence in support of Tanager's vision, mission, and strategy.
Cultivate relationships with key partners
* Cultivate relationships with representatives of client/donor organizations to gain strategic visibility of Tanager's work both within the organization as well as throughout the industry, with an eye towards securing additional sponsorships.
* Expand Tanager visibility in and contributions to industry dialogue.
* Help identify and cultivate relationships with new partners to secure donor/client commitments.
* Proactively position Tanager project design ideas with potential funding sources.
* Support development of strategic alliances.
Organizational Strategy and Organizational Development
* Contribute to development and implementation of Tanager strategy, new business initiatives, and the ACDI/VOCA Group, as appropriate.
* Support communications and engagement with the board of directors.
Other duties
* Support and enhance the company's culture of diversity, equity and inclusion and align with our corporate values by treating others with respect and congeniality.
* Ability to host or attend in person meetings when required.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree. Master's degree in journalism, communications, public relations preferred.

* Experience developing communications strategies for private sector and development industry audiences.
* Demonstrated experience positioning an organization for growth.
* Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, with an emphasis on storytelling.
* Skilled content developer. Ability to convert technical content into blog posts, newsletter articles, etc. for various audiences.
* Experience with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop and InDesign) preferred.
* Fluency in CMS web publishing platforms (e.g., WordPress). HTML and CSS a plus.
* Comfort with managing e-newsletter and other electronic announcements/automated communications using MailChimp or Constant Contact.
* Experience managing outside vendors (printers, marketing agencies, software, etc.).
* Expertise with managing website usability and functionality.
* Knowledge of current best practices for on-page and off-page SEO.
* Comfort using measurement tools such as Google Analytics and providing reporting and recommendations.
* Superb organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines, while working both in collaborative team environments and independently.
* Fluency in English required. French and/or Hindi language skills are a plus.
* Ability and willingness to travel internationally is required; must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
* Must be available during core business hours and/or operating hours for international time differences; flexibility to work more hours when needed.
* Flexibility to work in office based on work demands.
* Must adhere to our company's Health Safety Code of Conduct, fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive approved exception.
