POSITION IS LOCATED AT Clayton Livestock Research Center, Clayton, NM

Appointment is 100% research with potential administrative responsibilities.

New Mexico State University is searching for a dynamic animal scientist who may have the opportunity to serve as an innovative and collaborative leader with administrative responsibilities as a superintendent of the Clayton Livestock Research Center. The Clayton Livestock Research Center was established in the mid-1970s. The research focus at the Clayton Livestock Research Center has been on improving the health and performance of newly received lightweight calves. Research has worked to develop mitigation strategies for respiratory disease and nutrition management of cattle from receiving to harvest. The health of New Mexico ranch calves has also been a long-standing priority of the research station.

Responsibilities

* Research responsibility will focus on beef cattle production and health. Complimentary areas of interest may include feedlot nutrition, nutritional physiology and relationships between nutrition, animal health/immunology and growth physiology.
* The candidate is expected to establish a strong independent extramurally funded research program; Collaborative involvement is expected with researchers in Animal and Range Sciences on the NMSU main campus in Las Cruces, NM..
* Candidate must be able to relate research objectives to improvement in beef cattle health and production.
* Research activities will be focused primarily at the Clayton Livestock Research Center with additional opportunities on campus, at stakeholder ranches and at other off-campus experiment stations.
* Other responsibilities will include graduate student advisement, service with professional organizations; publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals, and interaction with extension personnel, stakeholders, and allied industries.
