Position Description

The Director – Capitation Accounting is a dedicated finance and accounting leader supporting accounting processes, performance insight, and perspectives across all USMM business lines, with a specific focus on USMM’s value-based care and capitation arrangements. The individual serves as a thought-leader on the finance leadership team and is a critical leader helping create scalable and robust processes and procedures.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise the day-to-day operations of the month-end and year-end close processes for all revenue-related and capitation-related accounting activities
  • Staff, train, and develop a team of staff and senior accountants
  • Create financial models in partnership with Actuary leadership to facilitate accounting activities related to capitation contractual arrangements
  • Process and approve financial transactions in General Ledgers related to capitation and revenue accruals and entries
  • Review account reconciliations on critical balance sheet accounts and analyze accounts to determine balance appropriateness
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities across Accounting and Finance functions
  • Coordinate with external auditors and serve as primary point of contact throughout the audit process
  • Review key customer contracts and complex capitation arrangements to ensure compliance with US GAAP
  • Serve as cross-functional leader and thought partner across Finance, Accounting, and Actuary leadership, ensuring appropriate data is available to inform accounting treatment and awareness across functions
  • Partner closely with finance, purchasing, and actuary teams on financial performance insight and analytics
  • Participate in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting packages for the Board of Directors, lenders, and management
  • Other ad hoc analysis on behalf of Finance and Accounting leadership team, as required

REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
  • 6+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • 2+ years of supervisory/management experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience with value-based care and capitation accounting treatment in a corporate accounting role
  • Deep understanding of US GAAP principals and ability to apply correct treatment under GAAP
  • Strong ability to collaborate with executive leadership and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder
  • Experience working in a growth and/or startup environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid, and dynamic environment
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, MS Office product suite, and accounting ERPs, preferably PeopleSoft
