Salary Range: 39,000 and 44,000 based on experience.

Position Description - What the Role Entails:

Under the direct supervision of the Prevention Services Director, the Prevention Services Specialist implements an evidence-based curriculum in community schools and organizes community events and projects.

Areas of Accountability - What you will be doing:
  • Coordinate development and application of community needs assessment with community stakeholders.
  • Gather and report data. Assist in the interpretation and implementation of community needs assessment data.
  • Meeting and disseminating data to DHS prevention as applicable or as needed.
  • Attend scheduled meetings, conferences, and coalitions, as well as developmental trainings.
  • Ensure and promote linguistic and cultural competence.
  • Promote participation in the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS), assist in the administration of the survey, and share results with relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct outreach to and establish and maintain relationships with appropriate sources.
  • Provide leadership, presentations, and collaboration with community partners to provide holistic services.
  • Keep informed of trends and best practices related to the programs and populations served, including any changing requirements.
  • Attend conferences, workshops and other indicated trainings.
  • Provide program resources (books, pamphlets, videos, etc.) on relevant topics.
  • Meet with school administration to build relationships and organize implementation of evidence-based curriculum.
  • Provide parent and youth education services to community members.
  • Attend community meetings and maintain a strong presence in the community.
  • Organize special events, including a prescription drug take-back event.
  • Prevention Specialists will provide substance abuse prevention curricula to high school students in classroom settings at partner schools.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Fluency in Spanish, bicultural applicants strongly preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, individual clients and groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize as needed.
  • Initiative and big-picture thinking.

Position Qualifications - What is required to Perform the Role:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a social services field preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows, the Microsoft Office Suite, and general data entry.
  • Must pass TB Test, and background check.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to educate community members and peers on program objectives.
  • 1-2 years of in prevention or community education experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel within Chicago.
  • Ability to travel out of state for several trainings.

Rincon's Work Environment - What to expect:
  1. Physical demands: The Prevention Services specialist must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, including transporting paperwork and other materials between a variety of on-site and off-site locations and preparing for activities that may require traveling to off-site locations. They must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  2. Environment: Your role will involve both office-based tasks and fieldwork, providing a dynamic and varied work environment. The role involves a combination of office work and field activities. You will frequently use a computer for data tasks and travel regularly to attend meetings and events. The job requires engaging with community members, organizing events, and providing educational services, which involves standing, walking, and occasionally lifting materials. Adaptability to various physical environments and conditions is essential.

Schedule:
  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday/Monday to Friday with Evenings/Weekends/Some weekends required/Variable

Language:

Fluency in Spanish, bicultural applicants strongly preferred.
