Project Manager - New Store Operations (Remote with Travel)

Harbor Freight Tools San Diego, CA (Remote) Full-Time

Do you have experience opening new retail stores? The Project Manager - New Store Operations is responsible for supporting the new store fixture and merchandising activities, and administration required to efficiently manage a group of Sr Leads, Project Leads, and Asst Project Leads while maintaining cost-effective new store set ups. This includes supervising, coaching, mentoring, and development of direct reports while managing the execution of projects.

In addition, this position is assigned to lead and direct outsourced fixture installers while working with the Field Operations Teams to fully outfit new stores with merchandise to ultimately benefit the organization. The Project Manager for New Store Operations is a key contributor in the turnkey efficiency within the Real Estate Construction program and ensures seamless turnover to the Harbor Freight Field Operations Teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as support to the Senior PM on all HFT New Store Operations fixture and merchandising projects
  • Work as a cohesive team member in the development of schedules for the Project Lead team while seeking input from entire NSO Project Management Team.
  • Generate accurate schedules for the NSO Teams assigned for fixture arrival and merchandising full fit.
  • In conjunction with the Senior PM, review and approve construction fixture installation bids and manage the scheduling of the installers.
  • Oversee the review and approval of certain expenses for direct reports
  • Assist the Senior PM in the review and approval of new hire requisitions ensuring the NSO Team is staffed to meet operational tempo.
  • Assist the Senior PM and NSO/FM PMs to maintain the most current data uploaded to the NSO ProTrack database. Ensure Project Leads are properly trained on their project upkeep responsibilities.
  • Act as a liaison between the HFT Construction Managers and NSO Project Leads when procedures are updating that require Real Estate Construction notification.
  • Continuously work to enhance the ability of the New Store Operations program to meet company objectives regarding store completion count, sales weeks, and store costs.
  • Communicate and manage all issues and risks affecting each assigned fixture and merchandising project in the new store pipeline.
  • Continuously communicate the project status (fixture and merchandising) to project participants and stakeholders accurately and on time to ensure we meet delivery/opening dates.
  • Assist Senior PM on the development and continued enhancement of the HFT New Store Operations Playbook for the fit-out and subsequent opening of new stores for the corporation.
  • Ensure the team completes tasks as required for opening day are completed timely in conjunction with the current Playbook.
  • Validate New Store Team Field Reports and manage the daily workflow of merchandising new stores in preparation for opening.
  • Complete regular Planogram reviews to ensure Supply Chain is provided with the most accurate packaging to merchandising discrepancies so the store can be properly outfitted.
  • Conduct Annual performance reviews as per Company expectation
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • At least five years of management experience in retail operations
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the new store operations industry
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and web-based portfolio management platforms
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills
  • Must be highly detail-oriented
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Proven ability as a self-starter and proactive problem-solver
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor direct reports
  • Strong computer and analytical skills

The anticipated salary range for this position is $68,700 – $103,100 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 136 hours per year, including 16 hours of Floating Holidays and paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law. The Company observes 12.5 paid holidays.
