Job Summary

The Nurse Manager of the Advanced Heart Failure Comprehensive Care Center is a highly visible position within UCSF Health. Reporting to the Administrative Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Comprehensive Care Center, this position assists with the development and implementation of new programs, policies, and patient care service standards, and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies. The Nurse Manager partners with UCSF Health Nurse educators the Nursing Professional Development team to develop nursing education, policy and procedure, EMR clinical documentation integration for all new products introduced within the AHF CCC as well as provide updates for established products and workflows. The Nurse Manager is accountable for coordination of the staffing, training and material resources for the following areas:

  • AHF clinic staff
  • Heart Failure Disease Management staff
  • MCS Program
  • MCS inpatient APP staff
  • AHF APP inpatient staff
  • MCS outpatient staff
  • Heart Transplant Program
  • Heart Transplant Pre and Post outpatient staff
  • AHF CCC Diuretic Clinic Staff


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $113,500 - $258,100 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Health Heart and Vascular Service line is a pioneer in developing better ways to diagnose, treat and prevent heart disease. We use the most advanced tools to diagnose cardiovascular disease and our physicians include world-renowned experts in every area of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Our experts are available to provide consultation for all aspects of cardiovascular care and preventions. We strive to provide rapid, seamless referrals.

UCSF Transplant Services provides care to kidney, heart, liver, lung and pancreas patients with end stage organ failure requiring transplantation. Each year we evaluate over 2,000 potential recipients and living donors and perform over 600 transplants. UCSF is one of the busiest transplant programs in the country with excellent post-transplant outcomes. Our multidisciplinary team of experienced clinicians provides cutting edge care to our patients and their families.

UCSF Adult Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) program provides clinical care and technical expertise in the care of patients with end-stage heart and/or pulmonary failure and patients in refractory cardiopulmonary collapse. The MCS program deploys and supports a variety of mechanical blood pumps and artificial membrane lungs available within the ever-evolving landscape of circulatory support technologies in order to keep these critically-ill patients alive- sometimes supporting the patient until they either recover their organ function, or when indicated as a bridge until the patient ca receive a transplant. Device modalities and targeted MCS therapies are typically.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working with patient populations that include Heart Failure, Heart transplant, cardiology and mechanical circulatory support
  • In-depth clinical practice and applied background in Advance Heart Failure. Advanced knowledge of industry trends
  • Experience in data analysis
  • Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant external regulations
  • Leadership skills to manage and motivate employees and oversee HR administration. Ability to resolve conflict / personnel issues and counsel staff
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment.
  • Ability to organize departmental operations in an efficient and effective manner maintaining patient care standards and regulatory compliance
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships clinical and professional staff at all levels and across departments
  • Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Demonstrated ability to listen actively
  • Ability to collaborate across departments to integrate cardiovascular patient care activities and resolve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new programs
  • Proven ability to set goals and implement initiatives meeting deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with senior management on setting objectives
  • Ability to actively listen, Advanced communication skills to influence and motivate others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification required in some cardiovascular disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative and quantitative research
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting payroll

License/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related area
  • Master's degree in nursing or related area
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Nurse Practitioner license in the State of California
  • Current AHA BLS
  • Board certification
