Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) is a division of the Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. AAP offers high-quality master's degrees and certificate programs at its Washington, D.C., Center, at JHU's Homewood Campus in Baltimore, Maryland, and online. The MA in Nonprofit Management is the first of its kind to be international in scope, but domestic in practice. Students acquire the leadership and organizational skills needed to succeed in the nonprofit sector, both domestically and abroad. The MA in Nonprofit Management is made up of ten asynchronous online courses (6 core courses, 3 electives, 1 capstone). Courses focus on leadership, governance, project management, monitoring and evaluation, communications, international nonprofits, and resource development.
We invite applications to fill an adjunct teaching position (10-15 hours/week), non-tenure track, semester-by-semester hire, with the possibility of contract renewal by semester, to teach for the nonprofit management program. The degree is fully online with primarily asynchronous classes. Applicants should have documented previous online course development/instructional experience at the graduate level. We seek applicants with expertise in the nonprofit sector broadly, international nonprofit work, program evaluation, financial management, human resources, and fundraising/resource development. The adjunct professor will report to the Associate Program Director of the Nonprofit Management program.
Instructional and administrative responsibilities of the position include:
- Attend adjunct faculty kick-off and other professional development meetings;
- Teach one online graduate course (unless there is a demand for more than one section) using Canvas per semester or year;
- Personalize the graduate course by identifying relevant academic materials, resources, digital media, recording original content for introductory videos, and revising any lectures that need revision;
- Use online tools such as Voicethread, Panopto or others;
- Grade assignments and provide regular feedback to students through the online discussion threads and in the Canvas grade center;
- Answer student inquiries via email within 24 - 48 hours;
- Be aware of, and in compliance with, all JHU AAP policies as an adjunct and instructor;
- Complete other administrative duties associated with teaching as assigned;
- Participate in the signature assessment assignment activities (on a case-by-case basis);
- Report to and be in regular touch with the Associate Program Director on policy updates, faculty summits, advisory committees, curriculum development, student needs, etc.
The expected salary range for this position is: $7,210
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree at an accredited college or university in nonprofit management, public administration, philanthropy, communications, business administration, sociology, or a related field
- 5 years of relevant experience in the field
- 1-3 years of higher education teaching experience
- Past experience with nonprofits and nonprofit management either in positions of leadership, or on a board or advisory committee;
- Strong familiarity with the general responsibilities of an executive leader, such as operations, program development, external communications and partnerships, strategic planning, fundraising, finance and administration, team management, and ethics, among others
- Familiarity with teaching onsite or online courses at a graduate level, and working with online or digital media or relevant software, Outlook, Canvas, Microsoft Office Suite and any nonprofit accounting software/databases (such as Quickbooks)
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in nonprofit management, public administration, philanthropy, communications, business administration, sociology, or a related field
- Past professional experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit, e.g. Executive Director, Program Manager, Senior Administrator, Board Chair, etc.
- Online teaching experience
- Familiarity with Canvas
- 1-3 years of graduate-level teaching experience with a proven record of effective online teaching and familiarity with adult learning techniques, and various learning management systems.
