What You Will Do

Join our world-class software development team! We are seeking a software developer to join our Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality, Safeguards, Security and Visualization Solutions Group. Our mission is to deliver reliable, secure, and cost-effective software and applications that meet business and operational needs in support of the LANL mission. The Software Applications and Engineering (SAE) Security (SEC) Scrum Team develops and provides support using the following application development tools:

• C# including .Net Framework or .Net Core or .Net 5+

• HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

• SQL and T-SQL

• Visual Studio IDE and Visual Studio Code

• Commercial Off the Shelf (COTs)

On any given day, the selected candidate will be asked to:

• Support software applications and systems by investigating, designing, documenting, and implementing software solutions.

• Work with customers, product owners and end users to understand business needs.

• Work collaboratively as part of a team.

• Foster strong relationships with customers, peers, and service providers.

• Identify and address productivity impediments and promote work process improvements.

This position will be filled at a Software Developer 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.

Software Developer 1 ($65,700 - $104,400)

Software Developer 2 ($79,200 - $129,000)

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Knowledge of the following:
  • The syntax, structure, features, and facilities of at least one programming language such as C# including .Net Framework or .Net Core or .Net 5+, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL Language
  • Relational Databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server
  • Automated software testing methodologies (unit, integration, system, security, performance)
  • Git or another distributed version control system
  • Work well in a team-oriented environment with the ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally within and outside of the group. In addition, you must have effective interpersonal skills for communicating technical information, building relationships, and resolving conflicts.

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualifications at the higher level requires:
  • REACT JS or other component-based UI frameworks
  • REST and REST APIs
  • Web security and secure coding practices
  • Testing of applications through unit and integration tests
  • Software version control (Git/GitLab)
  • Analyze and interpret business rules and workflows for application design

Desired Qualifications:
  • Working within a team leveraging Scrum or some other Agile framework focused on continuous improvement
  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) including build automation
  • Experience using or customizing JIRA/Confluence sites for the application lifecycle management, especially in DevOps
  • Ability to interact and communicate with non-technical audiences
  • Experience gathering or generating technical requirements and creating designs based on those requirements
  • Programming and development standards and procedures as well as software architectures for code reuse
  • Strong multitasking capabilities and the ability to work on multiple products and issues simultaneously
  • Research new technologies and tools, incorporate their usage into new products and services.
  • Database Design

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Location: This position is located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for teleworking from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Telework is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice. This position may be eligible for remote work (i.e., working from a US location that is more than two hours away from LANL). If this is a preference of the selected candidate and if management agrees, a remote work justification can be submitted for approval.

COVID Vaccine: The COVID vaccine is mandatory for all Laboratory employees, on-site contractors, and on-site subcontractors unless granted an accommodation under applicable state or federal law. This requirement will apply to those working on-site, those teleworking, and all new hires.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
