The role helps Flagstar provides informational and financial support for key strategic business initiatives for executive, senior management, and the Board of Directors. This position delivers financial insight and analysis to business partners that have varying degrees of financial and strategic prowess. Role includes the following – Analysis of Mortgage Industry with focus on key competitors and industry trends. Synthesis of diverse data points to articulate a coherent point of view. Ability to use and collaborate on Business Intelligence tools like PowerBI to provide real-time insights on industry data and trends. Analysis of financial results. Analyze actual results compared to expected results to advise the business with insightful feedback on its strategies and performance. Financial Model building and maintenance. Modeling expected future business performance given macroeconomic factors and the business strategies taken in light of those factors. Collaboration and ability to build effective relationships. Effective cross-functional co-ordination required with various Business and Finance teams to drive results and being in a position of being able to influence business decisions and analyses.

  • Monitor and analyze the various sources of industry information related to mortgage applications, industry originations, product and purchase/refi mix, key pricing indicators, analyst research and benchmarking results.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership, ability to provide analytics & modeling on tight timelines, articulating complex business problems and pro-active stakeholder management (Finance, Operations and Sales). Active participation during annual budget and strategy plan development.
  • Business Intelligence Tool Integration - Facilitate creation of Business Intelligence dashboards with the BI team in Mortgage Finance. Disseminate the information widely within Mortgage Origination business. Articulate a point of view on mortgage industry and competitive dynamics.
  • Support FP&A processes – Support Mortgage Finance team by providing inputs of market dynamics during monthly and annual forecasting. Work with Mortgage Leadership through Budgeting and Strategic Planning process to support with industry data.
  • Ad Hoc Analyses – Support Mortgage and Flagstar leadership to provide appropriate data and insights for ad hoc analyses and create powerpoint or Excel modeling as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.  Completes all required compliance training.  Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar’s internal compliance policies and procedures.  Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required + 8-10 years of experience in Financial Services preferably most in Mortgage
  • Master’s degree (MBA) preferred, + 5-7 years of experience in Financial Services preferably most in Mortgage
  • Ability to internalize mortgage industry news, research, databases and publication. Monitor, analyze and identify industry trends and drivers and macroeconomic indicators. Synthesize a data-based point of view and disseminate to stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and exceptional financial modeling and analysis skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint required.
  • Knowledge of Hyperion or other financial reporting system.
  • Basic knowledge of databases (Oracle/Access).
  • Ability to work in close coordination with key finance and business unit leaders to drive results.
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player in a dynamic work environment.
