A Stationary Engineer in Pittsburgh, PA is available through Belcan
The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all plant equipment in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Lead Operator and Plant Manager. The Operator directs the Maintenance Mechanic on duty, who assists with starting and stopping of plant machinery and equipment. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in plant operation.
The Operator reports to the Lead Operator for work duties and day-to-day assignments, and to the Plant Manager for all other matters.
The Operator works a 12-hour shift as scheduled by the Plant Manager. The Operator is paid according to the Union (International Union of Operating Engineers Affiliated with AFL-CIO Local No. 95-95A) contract then in effect.
� Monitor and control the operation of all plant machinery and equipment
� Monitor and be responsible for the effect on plant operations of all activities occurring in the plant and on the distribution system, e.g. visitors, customer developments, repairs, construction, etc.
� Operate � start, run, maintain, and stop � plant machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient manner
� Monitor and record plant operating parameters
� Monitor and record customers� consumption levels and demands
� Perform tests of operating equipment
� Monitor water chemistry in the various plant water systems, and adjust chemical feed systems as required
� Be responsible for the Control Room�s appearance and housekeeping
� Be responsible for assigned areas of operating floors (and machinery) with regard to appearance, operations, and housekeeping
� Upgrade skills and knowledge of plant systems, equipment, and components as directed or required
� Have or work to obtain knowledge and/or skill sets held by Maintenance Mechanics
� Overtime work is a requirement and expected from this position
� Required to learn and comply with company policies and procedures with respect to Safety and Environmental
� Required to participate and/or conduct safety and environmental topics discussions and/or training
� Minimum Job Entry Requirements
� High school education
� Minimum of two years of experience operating water tube steam boilers (100 psig or greater)
� Valid driver�s license
� Preferred Qualifications
� Mechanical aptitude and skill set as evaluated by the Lead Operator
� Basic intelligence and common-sense skills to not only learn complex systems and work under direction, but also to react to emergencies using judgment and intuitive skills
� Computer proficiency required in MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook
� Knowledgeable and experienced with boiler digital and pneumatic controls
� Sufficient physical attributes to be able to work in extremely hot and cold locations, the ability to work on ladders, to lift up to 75 lbs, and to work standing for several consecutive hours
� Chilled water system operating experience is preferred
� City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineer (SE) or NIULPE equivalent
� Universal Refrigeration License or pathway towards receiving a license
