Position Information

The Custodial/Housekeeping Supervisor is a member of the UCR Facilities Services team that supervises the day-to-day custodial and housekeeping operations to ensure and provide a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment for all members of the campus community. Under the direction of the Custodial/Housekeeping Manager, the Custodial/Housekeeping Supervisor provides direct supervision and guidance to a team of Lead Custodians and Senior Custodians; assigned staff can vary from 15 - 25 direct reports. Manages all phases of routine and/or emergency cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing, and general custodial/housekeeping maintenance of all campus facilities including but not limited to classrooms, offices, research labs, meeting spaces, restrooms, and housing residential communities. Responsible for supervising, scheduling, training and assisting the custodial and housekeeping services team; facilitates procurement of custodial supplies and equipment; manages all custodial and housekeeping related emergencies; and coordinates the locking and unlocking of various campus buildings. Ensures safety procedures and protocols are maintained in all facets of the custodial and housekeeping operations. Provides operational support to other Facilities Services units as necessary. Please note, the budgeted hiring range for the openings is up to $58,000 annually.

Experience Requirement Experience troubleshooting and performing minor maintenance repairs on custodial equipment. Preferred Experience with personnel management, including staffing, hiring, training, disciplinary action, termination, and performance management. Required Experience with collective bargaining units. Preferred Experience using online and/or web-based work order systems. Preferred Experience and/or knowledge of UC systems, polices, procedures and regulations. Preferred 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred

Special Condition Requirement Hired candidate must successfully pass a background check through the DOJ and FBI prior to appointment start date. Required Must wear University issued uniform. Required Must be flexible to work varied shifts and schedules (early morning, morning, evening or graveyard shifts; weekends and holidays) as needed to accommodate campus needs and/or events. Required Must be available for on-call emergencies. Required Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Required Ability to operate University vehicles for business and operational needs. Required Public Driving Record. Required Shift Work (hours outside standard Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM work hours). Required

Minimum Requirements

Ability to develop and maintain working knowledge in the use and care of power equipment, hazardous materials, bio-hazardous materials and clean room policies and procedures. Ability to provide staff guidance and properly train on use of equipment, materials and safety policies and practices.
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Ability to effectively communicate quality and service standards, departmental policies, procedures, goals and expectations to staff. Ability to motivate staff to provide the highest level of service to campus constituents at all times.
Ability to work with diverse populations.
Proficient knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel) and internet browsers. Ability to produce and provide reports on inventory/equipment, schedules, staffing, etc.
Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, flexibility, critical thinking, multi-task and time management.
Ability to develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and internal policies.
Working knowledge in custodial and housekeeping services.
Basic computer applications skills.
Working knowledge and skill in effective interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other personnel.
Skill in accurate record keeping with attention to detail.
Ability to ensure that custodial and housekeeping staff provide timely, accurate and appropriate response to routine custodial/housekeeping issues as well as emergency response to more urgent situations.
Working knowledge of and ability for decision making, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and perform operations analysis, and quality control analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work independently. Skill to review, prioritize, and distribute work orders, routine work, emergency requests, and to schedule the necessary staff, materials, and equipment to accomplish tasks.

Proficiency in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to identify relevant concerns, identify patterns or tendencies, and formulate logical and objective conclusions.

Knowledge in material ordering, material management, developing cost control procedures and inventory controls. Knowledge in cost estimating for custodial services and developing written proposals for services.

Ability to speak and write in Spanish.
