Position Description:
AMETEK Aerospace & Defense is looking for an experienced manufacturing engineer with strong operations background to fill our key Manufacturing Engineering Manager role. This unique position is responsible for leading the Manufacturing engineering team as part of the Thermal Management Systems team. This position will report directly to the Director of Operations. S/he will be responsible for helping to execute the plant’s tactical and strategic plans with an emphasis on AMETEK’s four-pronged growth strategy promoting continuous improvement, new product development, global and market expansion, and mergers and acquisitions. •Direct management of manufacturing engineers and production planners
•Lead manufacturing team to ensure robust product launches
•Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills as the direct interface with key executives at large, global corporations such as Boeing, General Electric, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell and others
•Partner with Engineering, Sales, and Production teams to deliver results
•Responsible for prioritization of production, prototype and service center manufacturing support
•Work with supply chain to optimize internal processes to increase productivity
•Provides technical advice and knowledge as needed on projects
•Familiar with common shop processes and equipment including fabrication, welding, machining, forming, sheet metal working, and tube bending
•Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot equipment and products
•Experience with variety of disciplines in metal forming including welding, brazing, heat treat, torch and vacuum brazing, machining, and mechanical assembly
•Experience in fixture design, error proofing, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
•Initiates process improvements through continuous improvement techniques that support quality improvements, cycle time reductions, cost reductions, and other activities aimed at reducing/eliminating non-value-added work. Responsible for development and preparation of process improvements and accountable for leading instruction, facilitating team decisions, managing teamwork, resolving conflict, assisting with implementation, and conducting required follow-up.
•Manages the transition of product design and development for new or existing products from customer designs to manufacturing. Supports and assists internal development projects to ensure a smooth transition into full production.
•Manage day-to-day tactical and long-term strategic activities within the business.
•Driving daily production and meeting On Time Delivery metrics
•Work with customer service and program managers to meet customer satisfaction metrics
•Work with quality and program management to resolve quality issues
•Responsible for operating performance, e.g. sales, profit, working capital, on-time delivery, planning, scheduling, and materials management
•Improve factory performance by executing lean manufacturing initiatives such as Kanban, SIOP, 6S, and Kaizen while maintaining focus on Quality improvements

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or similar field is required
•5-8 years’ experience in a technical Manufacturing/Engineering environment with functional leadership expertise in Operations and Manufacturing
•Prior experience working in the Aerospace & Defense industry is a strong plus
•Knowledge and understanding of aerospace and/or aircraft systems is a plus
•Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus
•Exposure to best practices, e.g. lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, Six Sigma, JIT, PMP and/or IMS Certifications etc. is a plus
•Ability to work with and lead shop floor personnel
•Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and communications skills (both written and oral) with attention to detail
•Proven ability to successfully handle multiple projects and meet critical deadlines
•Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building, both internally and externally
•Must be self-directed and be able to work well under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines
•Strong customer relations and negotiating skills are required
•Strong manufacturing process experience
•Due to contracts with the United States Government, candidates must be either a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident
