Position Details:

Provide professional mental health services to the offender population, to include formal and informal mental health evaluations, diagnostic assessments and clinical interventions. Serve as consultant for unit staff regarding assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning; ensure accurate reporting/documentation of mental health needs levels, including psychiatric and developmental disability needs level codes; provide group, brief, and individual therapy, and crisis intervention to include participation in 24 hour Mental Health On-Call Rotation. Assure both emergency and non-emergency transfer for offenders experiencing acute mental health needs. Assure continuity of care for offenders by making appropriate referral and providing necessary information and documentation for receiving units, facilities, and/or agencies. Document in an accurate and timely manner to provide comprehensive offender mental health records. Inform offenders regarding mental health care, to include: consequences of maladaptive behavior; desired and undesirable effects or prescribed mental health medication. Listen to offender concerns and provide counseling and direction. Communicate to advise, counsel, and/or guide staff within the clinical unit, the facility, and outside agencies to ensure continuity and direction of mental health care. Promote and be accountable for the safety and security of the clinical and correctional environment through conscientious observations and sensitive item control.

All positions will participate in a multi-discipline team oriented approach to the treatment and care of offenders

Experience/Qualifications Needed:

• One year experience as a professional sex offender counselor or a professional mental health counselor
• Experience with group counseling
• Graduation with a Master’s or Doctoral Degree in a mental health field such as counseling, social worker, marriage and family therapy, or psychology from a program approved by CACREP, CSWE, COAMFTE, or APA.
• Possession of a valid license through the State of Colorado, Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as one of the following: Psychologist Candidate, Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate, Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor or Psychologist.
• CPR/BLS card
