General Maintenance Worker

The Building People Washington, DC Full Time

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time General Maintenance Worker (GMW). The General Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • This is a position covering three different locations for three different projects in the DC area.
  • The employee will work two days at Joint Base Anacostia Bolling helping with furniture inventory, household moves, and periodic maintenance on ice machines.
  • The other days will encompass general maintenance on other projects as needed.
  • This is a full time position.
  • The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.
  • Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment, tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken windowpanes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • The job also requires the ability to lift 50 lbs. of furniture to assist in moving couches, chairs, dinning room sets, and miscellaneous items.

Required Skills

  • Clear background investigation
  • Clear drivers license

Preferred Skills

  • General maintenance experience of 3 years.

Preferred Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience of general maintenance repair, operations maintenance and inventory management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previously forklift certified
