Position Title: Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A)
Department: Special Student Services
Location: Seaside School District
Reports To: Program Coordinator
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Bargaining Unit: Classified, OSEA
Compensation: Classified Salary Schedule - RANGE T
FTE: 0.40 FTE; 7.5 hours per day

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
As a member of an educational team, the SLP-Assistant's (SLP-A) goal is to facilitate a child's/student's communication competence, which is critical for positive educational outcomes
Under the direction of the assigned Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), SLP-As implement on-going speech and language programs/services
SLP-As work with students who exhibit the full range of communication disorders, including those involving language, articulation (speech sound disorders), fluency, voice/resonance, and AAC system support
This position provides services to students with speech and language needs as determined appropriate by the SLP and within the scope of the license for an SLPA.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

- Associate degree from an accredited speech language pathology assistant program.
- To perform this job successfully an individual should be proficient with online software / platforms, e-mail, internet, spreadsheets (Excel), Word processing (MS Word), and assistive technology.
- Licensure through the Oregon Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
- Personal vehicle for travel throughout the geographic area of assignment.
- Bilingual preferred.

The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position
- Ensure that all students receive high quality, culturally, and linguistically sensitive competent services.
- Demonstrate awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity in the area of language acquisition with linguistically and/or culturally diverse populations.
- Provide intervention under the direction of supervising SLP, that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of individual students and is selected through an evidence-based decision-making process in accordance with the IEP/IFSP documentation.
- Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP.
- Implement a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities and implements a variety of service delivery models, including pull-out, and in-class supports.
- Address social, academic, and vocational needs that have an impact on attainment of educational goals.
- Implement, and support students with the use of augmentative communication devices.
- Supports scheduling and maintains appropriate records and data (if applicable, including Medicaid billing)
- Conduct hearing screenings, as necessary.
- Provides direct intervention assistance to students as identified by the supervising SLP by following IEP or protocols developed by the supervising SLP, excluding feeding/swallowing.
- Documents student progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the IEP and reports this information to the supervising SLP
Reviews and summarizes student performance according to the protocol prescribed by the SLP at the end of each session - Assists the SLP with informal documentation during an intervention session (collecting and tallying data as directed by the SLP), prepares materials and assists with other clerical duties as specified by the supervising SLP.
- Assists the SLP in collecting and tallying of data for assessment purposes, without interpretation.
- Signs and initials treatment notes for supervising SLP's review and signature.
- Knowledgeable about SLP-A licensure guidelines and requirements
Maintains supervision compliance in collaboration with supervising SLP.
Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.
