Kelly Services is hiring for Utility Mechanic with Excavator experience in Hayward, CA (zip 94545) to work with a leading supplier in the Chemical Manufacturing Industry. Do you have experience operating heavy equipment such as a Gradall, or something similar? If you hold experience operating a Gradall or similar heavy construction equipment, I encourage you to Apply Now! This is a great opportunity to grow your skill set and start a career in your desired trade. This will be a long-term, full-time contract position working a 1st shift work schedule. This Utility Mechanic will have responsibilities in a variety of areas such as: 30% of time will be utilizing a Gradall (2004 Gradall XL4300) to remove polymer filter cake from filter sand beds in the plant’s utility area.  This task will be working independently in managing the removal of waste product (filter cake) that settles and dries on top of long outdoor sand beds.  The filter cake is first turned, so that it can dry completely. It is then piled up in the end of the sand bed and loaded into dump trucks.  New sand is delivered periodically and needs to be spread in the sand beds.  In addition to using the Gradall, some work using hand tools to spread and level the sand may be required. 70% of time will be working with our small on-site maintenance team to perform routine maintenance tasks including:

  • Equipment lubrication routes
  • Assisting our site mechanic with preventative maintenance and GMISS inspections of equipment
  • Rebuilding AOD pumps
  • Monitoring site water quality and adjusting site water treatment chemicals
  • Extra set of assisting hands on 2-man maintenance jobs
  • Welding and fabricating would be included if we can find a candidate with that skill-set

*On-the-job training is expected for the maintenance activities. Procedures are developed and available for most routing maintenance tasks.  Top 3 Critical Success factors:

  1. Previous experience operating a Gradall or similar heavy construction equipment.
  2. Mechanically inclined (prefer previous training or experience as a mechanic).
  3. Previous welding experience is a plus.

Your typical workday: This could be highly variable!  Some days you will be working very independently on sand beds, other days you will be working closely with our site maintenance team on repairs and preventative maintenance. There is some flexibility with work hours, most commonly 7 am – 3:30 pm.  Overtime would be limited, but in certain cases, there could be OT. Job Requirements: HS Diploma or GED
Valid state driver’s license
Consent to pre-employment background and drug screen
