AVP, Chubb Global Casualty Foreign Casualty Pacific – North Regional Manager

The CGC FC Pac-North Regional Manager based in SF will lead a current team of 3 Foreign Casualty Underwriters, 1 Trainee and 1 Underwriting Assistant who collectively underwrite Advantage and Controlled Master Program (CMP) Foreign Casualty products to a universe of rostered Major Accounts through brokers in a geographic territory that spans from Northern California all the way up to Alaska. 


Key objectives for the role include: 

  • Hit financial goals related to renewal retention, rate, and new business production;
  • Oversee of renewal book including service and stewardship deliverables at the account level;
  • Grow book of business through new business production and coverage expansion to current book;
  • Ensure regional underwriting integrity and profitability;
  • Manage regional authority inclusive of underwriting referrals from underwriters as well as referrals up through CGC FC Home Office;  
  • Supervise, develop and train employees;
  • Manage agent and producer relationships;
  • Coordinate with Chubb Global Casualty Domestic Team on shared accounts and / or opportunities;
  • Partner with all other product lines that service rostered Major Accounts;
  • Assist the CGC SFU Branch Manager. 

In addition to these responsibilities, the Manager will underwrite a select book of renewal business and will quote certain new business opportunities in pursuit of hitting regional financial goals. 

Other job responsibilities and functions include, but not limited to:

  • Monthly reporting of FC regional performance;
  • Liaison with DBA / Cash-Flow FC UW operations based in Philly;
  • Account solicitation, risk selection, analysis (including documentation), referral, pricing, quoting and sales of products and services for new and renewal business;
  • Negotiate coverage, price, financial terms and service delivery;
  • Communicate underwriting appetite to staff through adherence to UW Authorities, Bulletins, and participation in weekly meetings and routine HO directed conference calls;
  • Manage Target Account process for FC in the region, including all appropriate documentation of such in Tracker;
  • Direct broker planning and goal setting including monitoring of progress and foster key broker relationships with our key trading partners;
  • Identify cross-sell opportunities with other Major Accounts product lines;
  • Meet with customers in sales or stewardship meetings and be able to represent Chubb in  regional FC management role as well as UW role;
  • Lead in a collaborative team environment with participants in Underwriting, Legal, Loss Control, Claims, Operations, Finance, Sr. Mgmt., etc. to find solutions to account specific problems;
  • Oversee account management throughout the region with a focus on retaining business, meeting service standards and hitting quote dates as part of an overall customer focused strategy;
  • Collect and share competitive intelligence with team and Home Office;
  • Coordinate self-audit process in accordance with regional goals and lead FC team to successful outcome in all Home Office directed regional underwriting audits;
  • Participate in national working groups on underwriting issues common to all regions, and develop underwriting solutions to regional specific issues.
  • Working knowledge of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
  • Proven and successful, sales skills. 
  • Prior people management experience a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. 
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
