Works with a focus in a specialty areas of the Laboratory, such as Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Serology and/or Microbiology.# Receives and/or obtains specimens for laboratory analysis.# Records laboratory test results.# Performs training activities and special projects.# In the absence of a Medical Technologist, may be asked to perform additional duties in order to ensure patient care needs are met through continuous work flow of the lab.#### # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: An Associate#s Degree in Medical Technology. Certification as an MLT from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or ASCP Categorical Certification specific for the laboratory section employed in (H, C, M, BB) is required. Troubleshoots instruments when necessary in accordance with instrument specific manuals Performs section back-up procedures in accordance with specific instruments Follows departmental policy and procedures for Quality Control. Exhibits technical expertise by assuring results are accurate with no technical data amends that would affect patient care. Makes calls promptly and documents calls to ensure test results are communicated to the appropriate healthcare provider. Informs Clinical Lab Specialist when reagents and supplies need to be ordered. Processes specimens efficiently to generate test results within the established TAT.# Collects all specimens by various phlebotomy methods for all age groups within the institution in an efficient and appropriate manner.# Follows designated collection procedure and specimen requirements.
