The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Production and Operations, the incumbent supports film, video, and moving image related projection and operations for screenings and events at the Lenfest Center for the Arts, a new multi-venue building that incubates, produces, and presents educational and professional exhibitions, events, performances, screenings, and artistic projects developed by the School of the Arts, the Wallach Art Gallery, and collaborating partners. Serves as building lead for moving image projection for screenings, events and installations, and as the Center's representative at assigned events and production activity during rehearsals and events. Ensures professional production and customer service standards are met. Manages building equipment and systems; maintains up-to-date working knowledge of building audio, film, video, lighting, and rigging systems. Attends and serves as department representative at events. Supports film, video projection or installation related planning and operations in other venues, and performs related duties, as assigned. This position requires frequent evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities

* Maintains high-quality customer service for the Center's diverse audiences, artists, performers, students, faculty, and staff; fosters a collegial, educational, and inviting environment that enables everyone to do their best work
* Working in close collaboration with the Director of Motion Picture and Information Technology and key stakeholders from the School of the Arts and Wallach Gallery, incumbent serves as lead for film, video, and moving image projection and installations for classes, lectures, screenings, and productions, public programming, and venue rentals
* Anticipates and meets the technical and production needs of screenings, performances, and events, recognizing and resolving problems in a timely manner, and advising on best practices and venue policies
* Supervises projection and technical crew, participates as needed in deliveries, load-in, setup, and breakdown of events
* Shares responsibility for production staff coverage at rehearsals and events, with frequent evening and weekend hours
* Oversees the general maintenance, safe operation, and circulation of shared building equipment; researches and makes recommendations on repairs and replacements
* Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Center emergency procedures and safety guidelines
* Oversees venue lock-up and security procedures
* Maintains accurate details and maintenance of schedule and production information in event database; may be asked to produce reports from this database with point-in-time or year-over-year analysis.
* As a member of the building's operations team, ensures that the appearance and general condition of the lobby, restrooms, venues, and other building spaces are appropriate
* Liaison with Columbia Facilities and Custodial, as well as with other University departments as assigned
* Certified as NYC Fire Guard for all Lenfest Center venues
* Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree or its equivalent required. Two to four years of related professional experience is required, as is professional knowledge of equipment and methods used in film, video/moving image projection, and installation.

Preferred Qualifications

* Familiarity with DCP creation and Projection, 16 and 35mm Projection, Davinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Digital Media compression, and streaming are strongly preferred, as are familiarity with audio, lighting, CAD, and rigging.

Other Requirements

* Must be able to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively while maintaining a calm demeanor. Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of producing academic and performing arts events. Must be highly organized, flexible, and able to balance multiple competing demands. Excellent written and oral communication skills, judgment, and initiative are required, as is the ability to interact with a highly diverse group of constituents within and outside the University and performing arts community. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Ability to work nights and weekends is a must.
