Job Summary

Fundamental Responsibilities:
  • Provides experienced design, evaluation, development, and deployment of network system software and hardware technology.
  • Identifies and resolves moderately complex problems, issues, and assignments in providing network operational support.
  • Implements and recommends improvements to network performance and reliability.
  • Performs experienced network analysis and studies to support the growth and expansion of IU-managed networks.
  • Documents network engineering efforts (updates, new functionality, issue/problem resolution).
  • Participates on project teams and resolves more complex network technical issues.
Department-Specific Responsibilities:
  • Analyze problems and implement appropriate solutions for existing network & telecommunications hardware, software, and network communications, wireless, and cable plant problems. Provides unique solutions based on existing campus architecture including complex troubleshooting, redesign, and modifications for optimal performance.
  • Management of maintenance and day-to-day operation of server software including active directory, VMWare, server, and hardware. This includes identifying areas of security risk or potential weaknesses and designing unique implementation solutions for campus-wide security and messaging systems based on campus server administration, design, and requirements
  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of campus wide network, server, and telecommunications solutions. This includes working closely with stakeholders to identify needs and requirements, translating these into best practice solutions, planning the timeline and resources for implementation, and successfully implementing. Includes the design and creation of campus wide VLANs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree
Preferred
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of network engineering or related experience
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
