A CICS and MQ Systems Programmer at NFCU provides 24x7x365 administrative, configuration, troubleshooting, and software deployment support for CICS Transaction Server, Websphere MQ, and a suite of supporting third party software products. The CICS and MQ systems programmer is responsible for maintaining the high availability production CICS and MQ environments as well as a number of test CICS environments. An MQ and CICS experienced professional who enjoys resolving system problems, acting as an internal consultant, and provides technical guidance on all things CICS and MQ will be a great addition to our team.
- All Mainframe LPARs are maintained as highly reliable and available. These LPARs and the CICS and MQ environments are monitored for performance and behavior within thresholds. Performance problems and errors are identified and resolved quickly. Maintenance deployments, definition changes, software upgrades, and enhancements to the environment are completed within acceptable service level parameters. The team members share responsibility for prompt resolution of incidents and the handling of change tasks for other teams that require CICS and MQ assistance. Response to unscheduled service outages, including escalation response is according to policies. All documentation and equipment diagrams are updated and maintained. Operational plans are established and maintained. Monitoring and reporting software management systems are properly implemented on all systems. PTF/APAR management and reporting systems are properly implemented on all systems. Communication to management; absence of “surprises” or unanticipated problems; and synergy among workgroups within ISD are an expectation. Customers are enabled to meet legal, contractual, and/or other federal/state regulatory based security requirements affecting service delivery. CICS, MQ, and supporting third party products are treated as a service with a Service Owner and Service Manager who take direct responsibility for the quality of the service to our members.
- Provides primary support and deploys maintenance for CICS, Websphere MQ, and supporting third party products. Supports and troubleshoots VSAM (including RLS), DB2 in CICS, Unix System Services, monitoring tools, web interfaces, and dump diagnosis / debugging tools. Evaluates and tests new releases of system and third party products including support of load tests and coordination of testing / change ticket supporting/planning activities. Creates and maintains all necessary documentation for operator system training. Understands the difference between an APAR and a PTF and knows how one is applied or deployed. Understands how to find out what maintenance is applied to a product. Assists in the maintenance and testing of disaster recovery procedures. Assists in the management of software sub-systems such as ACF2, TCPIP, VTAM, and JES2 as they relate to CICS and MQ. Provides technical assistance to ISD personnel. Provides support for Mainframe CICS related problems. Identifies and successfully troubleshoots problems and knows when to escalate to team leadership or to a vendor. Performs system audits. Monitors capacity and makes necessary recommendations or adjustments to system parameters. Work with other ISD teams to improve security, performance, backup strategies, batch interaction with CICS strategies, intercommunication strategies and administration. Provides off-hours support for Mainframe CICS, MQ, and third party product related issues as required
- Minimum 5-6 years of experience in mainframe CICS systems programming. Extensive knowledge of CICS, CICSPLEX, Java, and Unix System Services, Websphere MQ and VSAM systems internals including VSAM record level sharing. Demonstrated experience maintaining software and deploying maintenance or upgrades using SMPE, JCL, ISPF, assembly and link-edit of tables or exits, movement of datasets including load libraries or file systems among systems that do not share DASD, and interaction with one or more tools used for interacting with CICS for dynamic parameter update and definition maintenance. Knowledge of assembler or COBOL. Experience assessing a CICS or MQ environment and recommending software upgrades or maintenance or parameter changes. Ability to prepare clear and concise statistical reports based upon analysis and research of related data. Demonstrated ability to recognize, investigate and resolve problems in a time constrained environment. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
