Job Description

Service Market Logistics North America is part of GTO (Group Truck Operations) and has approximately 1,000 employees in more than 20 locations within the region. Our job is to design, handle and optimize the supply chain for all Volvo Group brands. The scope for Logistics Services includes making sure  material is delivered to the production facilities, packaging is available, vehicles are distributed to the dealers, and that management of material, warehouses and distribution ensures the availability of parts everywhere in the world. We make sure all logistics services are delivered with world class operational excellence.  
 
We have an exciting opportunity for the right individual as the Manager Distribution Center Operational Support for our 1,000,000 SF central Distribution Center in Byhalia, MS.  This new Byhalia DC is located approximately 25 miles southeast of Memphis, TN.  The Byhalia DC employees approximately 625 employees.  
Mission/purpose of the Job
 
Work and actively participate in the senior management team of the operation with the goal of the stated goals for the operation.  Plan, execute and follow-up all activities related to the financial performance of the Central Cistribution Center (CDC).
 
Scope & influence  
  • The position is part of the CDC management team and reports directly to the Director of the CDC.
  • The position is also part of the Business Control network within Service Market Logistics North America lead by the Director, Business Control.
  • The Business Controller will operate in a management capacity as required by the Director of the Byhalia operation within the guidelines established the Business Control function of Group Truck Operations and Logistics Services.
Key responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Actively participate within the management structure of the operation with the main purpose of advising and directing the management in areas of financial control, planning and execution.
  • Plan, execute and follow-up activities to reach efficiency and cost targets. Focus on continuous improvement and Lean principles
  • Develop the Cost Deployment concept within the VPS Structure
  • Deliver quality assured and timely operational reporting, future estimates and projections and scenario analysis
  • Ensure that financial consequences are well understood by decision makers
  • Perform and support post calculations on business cases
  • Develop and follow up Performance Indicators with the purpose to minimize cost and capital
  • Ensure that Operating Cost reporting requirements are met for Standard Cost of Sales Calculations
  • Support the director of the CDC in investment planning and execution
  • Ensure that the Volvo Group Financial Policies and Procedures are followed
  • Participate in the Business Control network within Logistics Operations Americas
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field or equivalent experience
  • 2-5 years of related experience in Management, Business Control,  or related fields
  • Demonstrated strong abilities in the Volvo Leadership competencies
  • Strong aptitude in problem solving and cost management
  • Very strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Volvo Production Systems, Lean Principles and Cost Deployment
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced team environment striving towards operational excellence guided by the Volvo Way and the Code of Conduct.
Preferred experience and knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change to set demanding targets and to work in and motivate teams and individuals to deliver outside their comfort zones.
  • Proven skills in business, financial and operational analysis
  • Knowledge of logistics and experience from a production or transportation environment is an advantage as is knowledge of parts and/or wholesale distribution
Necessary technical/functional/language skills
  • As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Must be able to communicate efficiently and effectively within a multi-cultural and international environment
  • Must be willing to travel domestically and Internationally (occasional)
  • Must be proficient in MS Office
