Performs fabrication, installation, and maintenance / repair of piping, tubing, and plumbing systems in a commercial and industrial setting.   Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for jobs and plans methods / procedure to complete the work, determines materials / tools needed, and determines the labor required.   Works directly with the maintenance managers, facility engineers, and contractors to offer suggestions on design, installation, and maintenance of the work. Assists in the implementation and improvement of the preventative maintenance program as relates to plumbing and pneumatic systems.Assists in the implementations and improvement of effective preventive maintenance programs for all equipment, performing scheduled maintenance on facilities and production equipment as required

Requires high school diploma or GED, must be a Master Licensed Plumber in the state of West Virginia, and have a Journeyman Pipefitter or equivalent certification.  7 or more years industrial / commercial experience required.

    Examples of Duties

    Employee performs and supervises maintenance and repair work. Duties include planning, scheduling, organizing and directing work, training personnel, and recommending applicants for employment or for advancement. Will be required to perform maintenance technician duties as require. Responsible for sustaining a high degree of care and awareness required to prevent physical injuries by teaching and enforcing safety regulations. Must be able to understand blueprints/drawings, estimate labor and material costs, Responsible for maintaining records of jobs performed, departmental charge codes, hours worked by employees and ordering/purchasing tools, equipment and supplies. Ensures proper equipment and supplies are available to complete various plumbing jobs and assists maintaining an inventory database of tools and machinery. Position requires initiative and judgment in order to recommend improvements, changes or new techniques and procedures. Performs and monitors jobs to ensure quality and proper OSHA and NFPA compliance with plumbing code and job standards. Responsible for external and internal relations. Specialized knowledge to analyze and solve industrial/facilities plumbing problems.


    Typical Qualifications
  • Performs difficult skilled work and supervision of plumbing crew engaged in maintenance or construction projects.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Oversees and delegates plumbing field operations.
    • Ensures project conformance to work plans and orders.
    • Skilled changing filters on compressed air, DI water, and other conveyance systems.
    • Experienced installing and performance maintenance on PVC, black iron, brass, PEX, PE, stainless, and copper piping systems.Includes solvent, threaded, flanged, compression, and crimped systems.
    • Knowledgeable of Uniform Plumbing Code as applies for construction and maintenance of natural gas, potable water, venting, hydraulic, process, sanitary /sewage, and industrial piping systems.
    • Experienced installing and maintaining valves, faucets, water closets, vents, hose bibs, water heaters (gas and electric), and circulating pumps in a commercial or industrial setting.
    • Skilled cutting pipe threads, sweating / soldering piping with MEP / propane, installing pipe hangers, and working with basic plumber / pipefitting tools (pipe wrenches, deburring tool, combination wrenches, flaring tools, leak detectors (gas).
    • Performs or assists in the planning, preparation, estimation, and design of maintenance and construction projects as it pertains to plumbing
    • Monitors internal projects and outside contractors for conformance to set standards and procedures
    • Coordinates and schedules equipment and workflow for maximum efficiency
    • Works with other departments, business, regulatory agencies, customers and co-workers
    • Accounts for department inventory and ensures preventative maintenance of equipment
    • Provides training and instruction to team members as required
    • Prepares and submits detailed reports and records for jobs completed
    • Assists in the preparation of the department budget as it applies to plumbing
    • Works on the project sites and gives advice and assistance to crew
    • May operate heavy and or light equipment to include personnel lifts
    • Assumes duties of Maintenance Supervisor as needed
    • May be required to wear some type of respiratory protection in the performance of their duties
    • OSHA 10 or 30 qualification preferred but not required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Performs and helps supervise several skilled and unskilled crews engaged in plumbing maintenance and construction operations. Carries out Master Plumbers responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and resolving problems.

Journeymen Pipefitter / Millwright certification preferred, High School Diploma or GED required.

Job Overview

The Plumber – Senior will serve as the lead plumber and will install repair and maintain plumbing systems.  The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.

General Responsibilities:

  • Inspects, installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, cooling, water, sewer, gas, and drainage systems.
  • Cuts, bends, threads and fits pipes with adjoining pipe assemblies.
  • Caulks leaks and opens clogged drains.
  • Installs sinks, showers, toilets, water heaters and related plumbing fixtures.
  • Estimates time and material costs on plumbing projects.
  • Requisitions new plumbing supplies and equipment.
  • May replace tile, re-plaster or paint walls through which holes have been broken to gain access to plumbing.
  • Document all work in the CMMS system.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.  
  • Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.  
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Serves as a lead Maintenance Mechanic Plumber by inspecting, installing, repairing and replacing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas, and drainage systems.
  • Interprets blueprints and works from sketches or verbal instructions. Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and local building codes.
  • Develops capital project scope and budget for equipment replacements and energy conservation opportunities.
  • Verify and implement preventive maintenance standards on all plumbing equipment.
  • Identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions with management oversight.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
