As Behavioral Health Sr. Account Manager, you will play a vital role in the success of Optum’s behavioral business. Your sophistication in relationship management, ability to understand client needs & opportunities, and your exceptional capacity to design and execute innovative solutions will be critical to our growth platform.

This relationship leader will support Optum Care, Optum’s Primary Care division, with behavioral health benefit management, including designing a strategic partnership, building an analytic, insight & reporting structure, working cross-functionally to ensure seamless operational execution, and continuously working to identify opportunities to exceed client expectations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Predict emerging customer needs and develop innovative solutions to meet them
  • Exceed client expectations while driving value for the behavioral business
  • Lead projects to achieve key business objectives, leveraging your relationship management skills to influence & build buy-in across OBHS and with our matrixed partners
  • Design and lead JOCs with clients and behavioral team
  • Translate complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences
  • Influence senior leaders to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • 3+ years of account management; demonstrated relationship management expertise
  • 3+ years of experience in managed care
  • Experience interpreting data, helping others to understand and derive meaning from data, and using data to design solutions that drive meaningful outcomes
  • Understanding of managed care principles, modeling and financing
  • Proficient with MS Office applications
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree (clinical, business, healthcare, or related discipline)
  • Experience with Medicare population and understanding of CMS regulation
  • Experience with mental/behavioral health
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; skill in sharing complex information clearly and concisely, and confidence & poise when presenting to C-suite leaders
  • Creativity & innovation; ability to design solutions that exceed client expectations
  • Predisposed to see problems as challenges to be overcome rather than immovable barriers; willingness to leverage relationship management, ingenuity & persistence to get things done on behalf of our clients and our business
  • Detail oriented; willing to dig into specifics to validate accuracy & quality of deliverables
  • Quick learner; ability to learn and retain complex information related to Medicare, behavioral health, managed care, operations, UHG organization and structure, etc.
