Sr Principal Chief Engineer

Northrop Grumman Mission System is seeking a Sr. Principal Chief Engineer to join the International Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain Intelligence Team. In this role, the Chief Engineer will engage programs across business divisions to identify technology needs and production requirements for emerging and established strategic programs. The Chief Engineer, along with business and supply chain program team members, will develop methods and tools to identify suppliers, assess suppliers and recommend to executive program leadership engagement strategies for both domestic and international suppliers. The focus for this role is in support of the MLSS division with an emphasis on development of the underseas and maritime industrial base. This role will provide the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment and participate in laying the groundwork for critical national and allied defense technology and production strategies.
This is an Onsite / Hybrid role located in Linthicum MD. May consider full-time remote. If selected for full-time remote, you will be required to travel to the Linthicum office once a month.
What You'll get to Do?
- Participate in the development of an International Supply base with Allied Country Partners.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts in a broad range of technical and engineering disciplines.
- Engage with our customer base and develop relationships and strategies with key government agencies.
- Gain exposure with briefing engagements to all levels of the Enterprise.
- Play a key role in establishing a generational National Defense Procurement Strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Provides technical insight into technical gaps/issues and designs and develops ideas on how to address.
- Programs/proposal/capture supplier development strategy (new or alternate supplier identification/incubation, affordability initiatives/reviews, etc).
- Assists with technology strategy and business case development for sourcing evaluations (new/second/alternate sourcing).
- Provides insight on cost concerns with emerging and current supplier technical solutions.
- Develops Product Line Supplier Strategies to leverage buying power and improve affordability.
- Leads Strategic Sourcing initiatives to reduce risk for Product Line execution.
- Recommend design improvements to produce lower cost/higher performing products.
- Direct alignment/engagement with Capture Teams to lead Supply Chain Capture strategies.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 9+ years of experience; 7+ years with Master's Degree; 4 years with PhD.
- Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing, and Test process.
- Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing and/or related experience.
- Must be able to understand complex technical issues and frame them in context for program management and government customers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking and innovative behaviors in past projects, roles or experiences.
- US Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree with emphasis in mechanics, mechanical, metallurgical, materials and process and/or manufacturing engineering.
- Experience as a technical lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead, or other leadership role in a program office or business function or engineering with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Project / Program Management skills (proposal creation, capture, scheduling, budget tracking).
- Experience assessing maturity of new technology for transition to production.
- Experience with development of and use of data analytics tools for technical/business strategy development.
- Experience with government agency and government laboratory engagements.
Salary Range: $121,000 - $190,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
